I am also experienced working with serious mental illness and in forensic psychology, including criminal cases and civil cases such as family court.
Everyone experiences the world with a different perspective, so emphasizing characteristics that are unique to you can be key to positive change. I use a client-centered approach to individualizing treatment and, as our world is ever-changing, this includes adapting with you when necessary. While Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is often an effective approach to begin with, I find that pulling features of other modalities helps develop a well-rounded understanding of your worldview and provides varied tools to be resilient in the face of life’s inevitable challenges.

Real change means real work. You must put forth effort and action to have a deeper understanding of the old patterns that exist. I hope to develop a safe, open relationship in which you feel safe to look at your patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that are holding you back from where you want to be, and develop a pattern of self awareness, and explore the possibilities before you. Telling our stories aloud allows us to have the conscious choice to move forward in the direction we want to take it

With over 25 years of experience, I subscribe to a solution-focus philosophy, in which I strive to address the problem with you as quickly as possible, but with enough depth to avoid relapse. I set goals early in treatment with adults and couples, or with children/teenagers and their families, so we can find successful solutions and change behavior problems, emotional difficulties, academic difficulties, or family problems as soon as possible. I love people and people's stories, and am always truly and deeply interested in the story of every child, teen, and adult I meet! I also think laughter is therapeutic and therapy can be fun.

Our intrinsic need to adapt and evolve is a double-edge sword. We have developed coping skills that helps us survive external demands, modern society poses a threat to our way of living because we have not been able to catch up. We still behave the way we did thousands of years ago because we have not learned to discriminate between past and present. Let's explore the causes and mechanisms that make your problems what they are and create a plan to confront and resolve those issues to protect your mental health. I use an integrative approach to therapy that I call Behavioral Medicine.

Tired of having to explain or defend yourself, or your existence, to those who just don’t get it? I see you. Feeling crushed by the weight of everything going on right now — post election emotions and related bullshit, family stress, relationship challenges? Are you tired of feeling alone, scared, or unsupported as you try to navigate it all?
Or maybe you are a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and seeking a real therapist who just gets it - no explaining necessary.
Or perhaps you and your partner are stuck in a pattern that leaves you feeling disconnected and frustrated with each other, and exhausted with the universe.

Forensic Psychology Therapists
How does forensic psychology work?
Forensic psychology works by providing those in the legal system with expert information about psychology and behavior that they wouldn’t otherwise have. Forensic psychologists do this through a range of services—conducting psychological assessments for court cases, assisting police officers with investigations, providing expert opinion, helping with mediation, and providing mental health care to victims or perpetrators of crimes.
Can a forensic psychologist help with child custody cases?
Yes. In the event that it’s needed, an attorney or judge may appoint a forensic psychologist to provide an assessment and recommendation. This process involves multiple interviews with the child, the parent (or parents), and sometimes others. The psychologist assesses the parent’s mental health, strengths and weaknesses, and parenting practices to understand what’s in the child’s best interest. They then complete a report with recommendations based on their assessment.
Do forensic psychologists help solve crimes?
In some cases they do. For example, criminal profiling involves collaborating with law enforcement officers to construct a profile of a perpetrator based on psychology, personality, and behavior as suggested by the crime in order to focus the investigation. They may also offer expert input on subjects related to a case such as deception, false confessions, and the reliability of testimony based on eyewitness accounts.
How long do people typically work with a forensic psychologist?
The length of time an individual works with a forensic psychologist depends on the relevant service. For example, if a forensic psychologist is conducting a psychological assessment for a court case, this may take one to two sessions to complete (although they can be more extensive). If the forensic psychologist is providing therapy to someone accused or convicted of a crime, treatment may last for several months or more.
