Let's face it....we live in a society that values physical health more than mental health. The stigma around mental health services can make seeking therapy scary and difficult. Many argue that therapy isn't for everyone; but I believe HEALING is for everyone. Maybe depression is weighing you down. Maybe you just can’t find a way to silence those negative thoughts. Maybe you've been heavily impacted by a loved one's addiction, or perhaps you need support in rebuilding your life, now that you're in recovery from addiction.
Are you struggling to navigate through life transitions or relational stressors? Are you a parent of a teen dealing with issues such as self esteem, body shaming, social anxiety and peer pressure? Are you a young adult challenged with self confidence in decision making and experiencing relationship concerns? Growing up is hard for most of us. In each phase of life, there are new responsibilities and trials to overcome, and because we’ve never done them before it can feel like defeat. You may be struggling with becoming older and the aspects that come with it and wondering how you can overcome these trials.
My goal for therapy is to help individuals, couples, and families live the most fulfilling lives as possible. I am extremely passionate about working with others who experience daily challenges. Sometimes life hands us experiences that we aren't prepared for in which we struggle to navigate on our own. Adults, adolescents, and children face different sets of stressors which require various treatment approaches. I feel that my clinical training and experience allows me to provide the most effective treatment for all of my clients.
I believe that the relationship between the client and the therapist IS the therapy. The feedback I hear from my clients is that they feel very relaxed and at ease with me which enables them to speak without censoring. This is the most important aspect of therapy...you must feel that your story is safe and secure and that you are being provided with helpful feedback. My relationship with my clients is a professional one yet my desire is for it to be interactive and informal. I am truly honored to help a person have their best possible life.
Psychological testing can be useful in determining a student's unique strengths and struggles with learning, as well as what types of interventions and strategies are needed for a student to achieve their true potential. Evaluations can also provide recommendations for appropriate accommodations through an IEP, a 504 Plan, or college disability services. I am a Licensed Psychological Associate and Nationally Certified School Psychologist with extensive experience working with school-aged children. I worked many years in local public school systems, and I am knowledgeable about the special education eligibility process.
I have been working with and helping individuals manage stress, anxiety, and goal setting for four years. My specialty is working with young adults with anxiety through assisting them in reframing their thoughts and learning positive coping mechanisms. I go through a series of modules and/or workbooks to help the individual first learn about the issue they would like to work on, and then build upon that knowledge to help that individual learn to manage that issue on their own. I want to assist individuals understand how their thoughts or beliefs, influence their behavior.
Sometimes trying to manage everything at once can cause you to feel alone, exhausted, taken for granted, misunderstood, unappreciated, or question yourself. We get it, and we're here to help! Finding balance amongst the many roles you play, developing a solid sense of beliefs and self-worth, and being able to understand/communicate your emotions, promotes a sense of personal growth and accomplishment that will allow you to live fully. Life & Wellness can help you manage the different challenges of everyday life by providing emotional, social, physical, and/or spiritual support.
I work with children and adolescents (5-18) struggling with adjustment disorders, ADHD, Autism, developmental changes, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and family conflict. I also work with young adults (18+) dealing with transitional life changes, identity exploration, and various mental health concerns. I believe in empowering clients to take control over the things they can and to accept the things they cannot. We will work together to establish healthy coping skills for challenging situations. I collaborate with parents to help identify your child’s strengths and to create a responsive rather than reactive home environment.
