Are you living a purpose filled life? A life that you enjoy waking up to and beginning your day with a strategic plan to live on purpose. At one point you felt optimistic about life then out of nowhere you were triggered by a memory from the past which led to your downward spiral of emotions. Now you are questioning your life's purpose and reason for existence. Or perhaps confused as to why you have experienced certain encounters leading you to feelings of stress, distant behavior, agitation, or perhaps hopeless.
Being stressed may feel normal, but it doesn't have to continue. Your days are full, you are tired, and taking care of yourself always takes last place on your to-do list. From the outside looking in you appear driven, responsible, and confident, but it never feels like enough. The things you are pouring yourself into don't feel as fulfilling as they once did. You feel accomplished, yet empty; successful, but waiting for the other shoe to drop. You've worked hard to build your life, but you know you want to, and need to, make a change.
The counseling process is a partnership. We believe some of life's most difficult moments can be processed and healed through the therapeutic relationship. Whether you are in a hard life transition, dealing with chronic anxiety, or working on a challenging relationship, counseling can be the vehicle to help get you to the other side. We seek to build a compassionate, safe relationship with you so that we can work together to explore what’s happening in your life. Our staff strife to support you in the way that you need, while providing comprehensive services based on evidence based modalities.
I work with adolescents, adults, couples and families on a range of things, from family and relationship issues to life transitions, depression and anxiety, grief, larger existential questions, and other things. A particular focus is helping people in crisis manage and make meaning from difficulties. My approach to therapy is supportive, relational, and client-centered, with a focus on how things manifest themselves in the here and now. More than anything, I try to create a safe space for tuning in to feelings, finding balance, healing, and working on change.
Pregnancy and the first few months, even the first year, post-delivery can be really hard. These months can be filled with such joy and anticipation, but can also be accompanied by stress and uncertainty. During pregnancy, women often struggle with anxiety about their baby, their changing bodies, and their upcoming delivery. Post-delivery, women and their partners may continue to have worries about their health, their new roles as parents, and how to care for their baby in addition to managing other life stressors. One can need additional support as they try to navigate and adjust to the journey of pregnancy or new parenthood.
Everyone gets “stuck” in harmful patterns of thought, attention, behavior, and emotions sometimes. Working together can help you learn to slow down, see with more acceptance, curiosity, and compassion, and adopt new ways of being which support greater aliveness, connectedness, and purpose. I approach therapy with a warm and collaborative attitude, holding a strong belief in your strengths, potential, and innate wisdom.

My approach to therapy is gentle, perceptive, and honest. Utilizing contemporary neuroscience and traditional mindfulness, I cultivate a therapeutic environment that is ripe for transformation, health, and joy. Clients appreciate my warmth, authenticity, and the sense of safety that I create. I enjoy supporting my clients in exploring core beliefs that have been limiting their freedom. As a practitioner, I value all avenues of experience (thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, memories, images, and dreams) as valid pathways into the inner world.
I believe my role as a therapist is to provide a safe, supportive space where you can talk over your difficulties, and I in turn provide perspective, insight, and creative problem-solving strategies. With over 20 years of experience, I have many therapeutic approaches available. Past clients have told me that they appreciate my ability to listen reflectively but still provide active feedback and ideas that allow them to see a new angle on their problems and begin to change. I can be most helpful with relationship issues and with anxiety and depression. I have particular specialties in helping women with mid-life transition issues.
Does life feel challenging right now? Are you going through a life transition, feeling stuck, or are you an exhausted mom? I'd love to meet you and learn more about you. Everyone deserves to have a safe time and space for personal exploration, release, support, and growth. Together we can create that space in our therapy sessions. We will collaborate through a process of guided discovery, look at both the struggles and strengths you bring, and set attainable goals. I believe every person can find a path to greater meaning, connection, and contentment. I will bring warmth, empathy, and authenticity to our work. I am here to help!
It can be hard to know which therapist will meet your needs. If you are anxious, stressed, tired, down, struggling with relationships, or just feel like something is 'off', I might be the right fit for you. People often work with me on issues within their relationships, feeling comfortable with their emotions, and overcoming obstacles to success. People might have trouble with body image, maintaining meaningful friendships, managing conflict, setting boundaries, coping with fear, and reconnecting with themselves after traumatic experiences. If this resonates with you, I'm so glad you found my page.

Sometimes life creates change when we aren't ready. You may find that life transitions have left you feeling differently than you expected, or you're discovering things about yourself that you aren't sure what to do with. Sometimes loved ones change in ways that challenge us, and sometimes we grow and hope our loved ones will grow with us. Sometimes LGBTQIA+ identities have specific needs, particularly for couples and families adjusting to newly expressed identities and searching for a healthy, supportive dynamic. Unfortunately, coping with these unexpected changes usually isn't a smooth, easy, or pretty process.
Sex and relationships can be hard to talk about --- But you don't have to do it alone! I am Devon Abdo (her/she), LMFT, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in Sexuality and Sex Therapy. I work with both couples and individuals who are interested in exploring their relationships and sexuality or need help dealing with this crazy world. I believe in tailoring each session to the needs of each client where they are, of any gender orientation, gender expression, race, or relationship style. I am trans-affirming, fetish-affirming, and poly-affirming.
Struggling with self-criticism, a life out-of-balance, or the past taking up too much of your present can feel lonely. Often the coping strategies that helped us survive can develop into problems themselves and figuring out the best way forward can feel overwhelming. I am honored to work alongside individuals as they discover their inner strengths and develop new, effective strategies to experience and navigate life. I work to foster self-compassion and self-worth in my practice.
