When we come to therapy, often our choices have not led to the life we desire. Under the influence of anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress, or the allure of substances, pornography, spending, etc., it can seem like life is out of our control. Rather than be controlled, we desperately want to be free to pursue what is truly good. Therapy then is an opportunity to not only find freedom from mental turmoil, but to realign life toward what is worth pursuing. The goal, then, is not simply to “not feel” a certain way, but to be drawn into something much greater that transforms our mind, our relationships, our work, our spirit.

I am a licensed clinical social worker and I truly look forward to working with you. It can often be an overwhelmingly difficult decision to reach out for help and I appreciate the challenges that you may face. For the past twenty years I have worked in diverse settings with individuals wanting an emotional balance in their lives, or with parents and children to strengthen their relationship, but always with the common goal: to feel better! My therapeutic approach focuses on your strengths and work towards using those strengths to make desired changes in your life.

I provide affirming and person-centered therapy to teens and adults (ages 14+).
I believe that creating a safe, respectful, environment that fosters trust is essential to therapy. My practice is influenced by Narrative Therapy, CBT, DBT, ACT, and Feminist Theory. I believe that mental health challenges are rational responses to an irrational world. Once we understand this, we have much more room to engage with problems in a helpful way.

Hi Thanks for taking a look at my profile- Reach out if it seems we might be able to work together in a way that would be helpful to you...I'm working only via telehealth which reduces your commute time. My clients tend to be working on being awake and aware of and attuned to and stressed by the complexity of our culture today. I work with issues of alternative sexuality, gender dysphoria, relationships in all forms including relationships that are kink friendly and/or poly. I come from an eclectic training background but find that I draw from the insights of IFS more often than other modalities.

The clients with whom I work are seeking to find, or reclaim, joy or clarity in their lives. They have a sense that there's something more to life than what they're experiencing, but don't believe that medication or conventional talk therapy is the way to get there. Perhaps they want to make some changes in their personal or professional life but feel stuck.

I work with adults and older teens seeking assistance with a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, and identity development and change.
My primary training is in Internal Family Systems, an approach that helps us understand and heal parts of ourselves that may be wounded or in conflict. I also draw on other somatic therapies and mindfulness. These approaches help us to work with what's beneath our familiar narratives and find the roots of our hurt and distress so that they can be healed.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
