ADHD, Coach
This is an area of passion for me on a personal level, because I am raising a teen with ADD.
As an adult with ADHD, are you constantly overwhelmed or always playing catch-up? Is lack of focus impacting your life? Whether you are newly diagnosed with ADHD/ADD or have been struggling to find solutions for years, I will help you create effective strategies to manage your challenges and enjoy lasting change. If you are a parent of a child with ADHD, I will help you understand your child's brain, differentiate ADHD struggles from standard childhood behavior, and develop parenting strategies that will stop the chaos and help your child succeed.

I am passionate about working with children, adolescents, and families on a variety of issues, including but not limited to behavioral issues, anxiety, depression, adoption/foster care, trauma, and family stress. While I provide therapy to child and adolescent clients, I offer research-based parenting strategies for parents to support the child's treatment goals.

Families come to me because their child or adolescent is struggling, and often times they don’t know where to begin to make things better. I work with children, teens, their parents, and young adults (up to age 25). I initially focus on learning about a person's challenges and strengths. Then, together we develop a plan for gaining mastery over difficulties, achieving goals, and ultimately reaching a child, teen , or early adult's potential. Often challenges feel overwhelming when first seeking help, but most families find initial sessions to clarify goals while also setting the stage for long-sought change.

** Currently, not accepting new clients. ** Each individual coming across this page is in a different stage of their respective experience, comfort, and presenting concerns related to mental health. Oftentimes we struggle identifying what we may need or want, but know that something needs to change. I pride myself in meeting each person wherever one is and work collaboratively and empathically to identify areas of concern and continued growth.

Life events occur that can overwhelm our coping skills or maybe we have been dealing with challenges for a long time. Either way, there are times we could all use support and perspective. I often work with people experiencing anxiety, depression, interpersonal relationship issues, trauma, and eating disorders. I believe that social/cultural identities, roles, and life circumstances impact how we feel about ourselves and others. I'd like to get to know your unique story. Whether this is your first time looking for a therapist or it's time to re-connect with treatment, you have taken the first step.

September 2022: I am not accepting new patients until after the start of 2023. You are welcome to contact me and I will respond about availability when I am able. I have dedicated my 20 year long career to the premise that we must know what is possible and have capacity to do it before we can be free to choose. During my academic studies in Psychology, Philosophy, Religion, and Social Work I was introduced to the intersections of Queer and Gender theories and became ignited with the framework of knowledge, power, control, and paths to liberation, all of which continue to inform my practice.

Sometimes you feel stuck. Getting through each day takes effort. Maybe you want to make personal changes, but you're not sure where to start. Maybe you wonder if past experiences are keeping you from thriving, becoming your best self, and having the kind of relationships you want with others. Or perhaps the stress of this pandemic and the times we are living in is overwhelming you. You may feel depressed, anxious, fearful, or irritable. Maybe you wonder, "Will life always be this way? How can I confront this stress and maintain my health?"

I believe that we have all of the tools in us already to make the change we desire. Therapy can serve to identify and access those qualities, offering a place to create a safe relationship with another-- to explore and strengthen ones' sense of self, and to work through challenges because life can be tough. Do you have trouble liking yourself? Do you struggle with low confidence, anxiety or other intense emotions, such as shame or guilt? Do you find yourself really angry and not know why? Within my relational approach to treatment, I strive to find a balance, reduce suffering, and work toward the change the individual desires.

Children and teens with depression, anxiety, ADHD, or other challenges often know what changes they want to make in their lives (e.g. getting better grades, feeling happier, having more friends) but find making life changes and reaching their goals to be incredibly difficult. My therapeutic intention is to reduce self-blame, learn to harness internal strengths, and help children, teens, young adults and families reach their goals. Always the overarching goal of therapy is to help individuals and families become their best selves through identifying goals and alleviating challenges.

I am a licensed clinical social worker and I truly look forward to working with you. It can often be an overwhelmingly difficult decision to reach out for help and I appreciate the challenges that you may face. For the past fifteen years I have worked in diverse settings with individuals wanting an emotional balance in their lives, or with parents and children to strengthen their relationship, but always with the common goal: to feel better! My therapeutic approach focuses on your strengths and work towards using those strengths to make desired changes in your life.

I believe therapy should be a collaborative effort between client and therapist. While I may share some evidenced-based ideas during our sessions, only you are the expert on what works for you. My sessions will generally follow a cognitive behavioral approach, meaning that we will examine, and possibly shift, your thoughts and perspectives on life situations that are causing you enough distress to want to pursue change. Together we will form a plan of action that is the right fit for you at this point in time.

Suffering draws us to consider therapy, much as it sends us to any doctor. The suffering therapy focuses on is emotional and existential (a LIFE that is out of whack). If you are considering therapy it means that you take your suffering seriously and wish to seek a more fulfilling life. You know instinctively that more is possible. I have many years of experience in helping people to develop greater strength and more fulfilling relationships.

I AM NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. People's reasons for seeking therapy are as varied as the individuals themselves. For some, therapy is part of a broader approach to life in which insight and inner work are seen as core elements to living well and expansively. For others, the step to seek therapy is taken out of pain and suffering and after much deliberation. At times our internal experiences are so painful, they prevent us from fully engaging in our lives and relationships. Therapy can help you learn to hold with care and confidence all your thoughts, feelings and memories while moving through life in a meaningful way.

Teen Therapists
Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can raise questions of independence and identity; as adolescents cultivate their sense of self, they may face difficult choices about academics, friendship, sexuality, gender identity, drugs, and alcohol.

Most teens have a relatively egocentric perspective on life; a state of mind that usually abates with age. They often focus on themselves and believe that everyone else—from a best friend to a distant crush—is focused on them too. They may grapple with insecurities and feelings of being judged. Relationships with family members often take a backseat to peer groups, romantic interests, and appearance, which teens perceive as increasingly important during this time.

The transition can naturally lead to anxiety about physical development, evolving relationships with others, and one's place in the larger world. Mild anxiety and other challenges are typical, but serious mental health conditions also emerge during adolescence. Finding a teen therapist in Hillsborough and addressing a disorder early on can help ensure the best possible outcome.
