A new addition to my practice is
life coaching
.
Counseling requires your active involvement in efforts to change your thoughts, feelings, and/or behaviors. It is my role to assist you in finding your own direction. I respect individual expressions of personal beliefs, although I approach counseling from a Christian view. We will work together to achieve the best possible results for you. Clients with whom I work are psychologically and emotionally "healthy" and seek counseling for difficulties due to normal
life
events. I have special skills in pre-marital counseling; grief and loss counseling; anxiety and depression; relationship issues; and personal and spiritual growth issues.

Women facing
life
transitions have also been a focus in my work through the years.
I have a lot of experience as a therapist and you have a lot of experience at being you. Let's put our heads together and figure things out. My approach is insight-oriented and based on psychodynamic theory. We can work well together if you're curious about yourself and willing to engage that curiosity with me in understanding how you came to be who you are, where you are now and how you can get to where you want to be.

No matter our age, race, socioeconomic group, educational level, sexuality, spiritual affiliation (or non-affiliation), or cultural backgrounds we all face the inevitable challenges of
life
, none of us are exempt from this. Most times we are able to navigate victoriously through these experiences, but sometimes our challenges can leave us so overwhelmed that we have difficulty understanding our situations and coping with our circumstances which makes it very difficult to find a way to overcome them. Ultimately we all want to "live our best
life
" and sometimes we may need to reach for a trusting hand to help us manifest it.

As I think back over my
life
my experiences have been too numerous to count. I've experienced the loss of loved ones, disappointments, medical problems, divorce, betrayals, and celebrations too many to count. I have been extremely blessed by Jesus Christ my Savior, who is the source of all my strength. With God's help, I have accomplished things I never could have imagined. He has given me wisdom and taught me to have compassion for others who are experiencing their own struggles, trials, and difficulties in
life
. Jesus taught me to see others through His eyes. He is my companion and advisor in everything I do.

I enjoy working with older teenagers (17 and above) and individual adults across the
life
span.
I have great faith in “the power of story,” and find it is of great benefit for clients to be able to tell their stories in a safe, accepting, non-judgmental setting. This helps to get things “out of our heads and into the light” where we can examine them, test their validity, and help us come to terms with the true versions of ourselves (versus the “the “edited” version we often present to the outer world). The ability to “say things out loud” in a safe place is, in itself, often therapeutic.

What brings people to counseling? A sense that something's not right. The desire to stop feeling sad, depressed, worried or angry. And the desire to explore issues with an objective listener who has no other agenda than to help do what's right for you.
I believe my clients are capable, competent individuals who come to me because
life
's circumstances have challenged their current ways of coping. My goal is to assist my clients in feeling better as quickly and efficiently as possible, and to help them develop enhanced
life
skills and gain a better understanding of themselves.

What can I expect from life coaching?
Clients and coaches will typically start by identifying the problem area(s) that the client hopes to address—then, the coach will help the client brainstorm potential solutions and explore concrete techniques to help the client attain their goals. Coaching is typically short-term and focused on finding solutions in the here and now, rather than exploring a client’s past. In addition to strategies aimed at the client’s specific concerns, coaches may encourage general stress management techniques such as meditation.
Can a life coach help treat anxiety?
Because the majority of life coaches are not licensed clinicians, they are not qualified to diagnose or treat anxiety. Anyone struggling with anxiety or another mental health condition should seek help from a licensed mental health practitioner. However, some coaching clients who struggle with subclinical anxiety report that working with their coach on other problems—such as career dissatisfaction or unhealthy habits—has a positive effect on their anxiety.
Can life coaching be done online?
Yes. While life coaching often happens in person, many coaches conduct sessions over the phone or via online platforms such as Zoom or Skype. Because life coaches are not subject to local licensing regulations in the same way that therapists are, they are able to see clients who live in other locations.
How long does life coaching last?
Life coaching tends to be a shorter-term process than therapy, though it does not always unfold over a specific period of time and is instead based on the coach’s or the client’s preferences. Coaching often takes place over three to 12 months but may be shorter or longer if necessary.
