I provide a judgment free zone, serving
women
over 21 and couples.
Immediate virtual evening sessions. We're living in such uncertain times. Most of us have never experienced anything like what's been going on the past 2 yrs. You may have already been living with financial stress, health issues, or perhaps relationship complications. On top of those, there’s an unpredictable virus that’s holding us all hostage, as well as political and social unrest. That’s a lot for any one person to try to unpack alone. If you want to talk about how these things are impacting your life, or the other stresses you were already facing, reach out to me at your convenience. Serving clients in NC and VA.

My main areas of expertise are college students and
women
of all ages.
I have a lot of experience as a therapist and you have a lot of experience at being you. Let's put our heads together and figure things out. My approach is insight-oriented and based on psychodynamic theory. We can work well together if you're curious about yourself and willing to engage that curiosity with me in understanding how you came to be who you are, where you are now and how you can get to where you want to be.

Working with
women
has been my concentration, but in the military, I worked with men,
women
, and children.
As I think back over my life my experiences have been too numerous to count. I've experienced the loss of loved ones, disappointments, medical problems, divorce, betrayals, and celebrations too many to count. I have been extremely blessed by Jesus Christ my Savior, who is the source of all my strength. With God's help, I have accomplished things I never could have imagined. He has given me wisdom and taught me to have compassion for others who are experiencing their own struggles, trials, and difficulties in life. Jesus taught me to see others through His eyes. He is my companion and advisor in everything I do.

I am particularly passionate about helping
women
who are experiencing life changes since I personally know what that's like and have learned to thrive.
If you are wondering what to do now that SHIfT has happened, (that's my acronym for life has changed (shifted) and you don't know what to do), if you're feeling scared and anxious, or so down in the dumps thinking you'll never feel joy again, let's talk. I know that sometimes we all need help to cope. I have helped clients feel better, sometimes as quickly as three sessions, empowering them to help themselves. Clients say that what they appreciate most about working with me is my compassion, understanding, and ability to truly listen.

Hello there! Does life constantly point you in various directions and you are frequently uncertain of which way to go? Does everyone including yourself expect you to be clear and strong? Is always the appearance of having everything in the right place and without fail essential to your position in life? We are our experiences and we as
women
carry a specific set of issues secondary to the not so good things that have happened to us. It is ok that these issues manifest themselves in trauma, moodiness, emotional turmoil and the inability to create stable relationships free of relentless conflict.

No matter our age, race, socioeconomic group, educational level, sexuality, spiritual affiliation (or non-affiliation), or cultural backgrounds we all face the inevitable challenges of life, none of us are exempt from this. Most times we are able to navigate victoriously through these experiences, but sometimes our challenges can leave us so overwhelmed that we have difficulty understanding our situations and coping with our circumstances which makes it very difficult to find a way to overcome them. Ultimately we all want to "live our best life" and sometimes we may need to reach for a trusting hand to help us manifest it.

My clients often struggle with challenges in their relationship’s whether they be romantic, friendly, or family relationships. My clients worry about abandonment, often finding issues from their past show up and negatively affect their relationships. Some feel they may be in a codependent relationship but not sure. Our work together will you help you understand how past pain affects present relationships. Then we will work at unpacking that baggage, organize it, and put it away in a safe place. Although it may never truly go away, you can confront it in a way that allows you to move forward and find happiness.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
