We also love working with little ones, teens, and their families! Fears & worries, behavior problems, family & life changes, school & relationship struggles - these are just a few reasons why we see younger people & families.

Sometimes this world is not the easiest place to live as we do not have control over every circumstance. We do, however, have control over how we respond to life situations we encounter. As humans, controlling our behaviors, our thoughts, our feelings can be a struggle at times. Therapy is a safe place to process, to learn, to grow so that we can react more effectively to life circumstances and to gain more authority over our lives. Each person and situation is unique. Candice approaches each individual/couple/ family from a non-judgmental perspective provided with empathy, challenge, and guidance.

Areas of treatment include but are not limited self-esteem, personal, emotional and behavioral issues in school, work, at home, difficulties in family communication and relationships.
I would like to acknowledge and congratulate you on the courage required to take the steps necessary towards achieving your desired goals. The counseling process can be intimidating as it requires you to entrust your current behaviors, thoughts, feelings and concerns to a licensed professional in the hopes of relieving problematic symptoms. My goal is to assist you in this process by providing a warm and empathetic environment in which you are able to discuss, explore, and decide the direction you would like to take. My approach serves to teach you the skills and techniques to effectively identify current problems with confidence.

I have experience in a variety of issues such as, anxiety, depression, stress, relationships and family issues, anger management, self-esteem, trauma, children issues, and more.
No matter our age, race, socioeconomic group, educational level, sexuality, spiritual affiliation (or non-affiliation), or cultural backgrounds we all face the inevitable challenges of life, none of us are exempt from this. Most times we are able to navigate victoriously through these experiences, but sometimes our challenges can leave us so overwhelmed that we have difficulty understanding our situations and coping with our circumstances which makes it very difficult to find a way to overcome them. Ultimately we all want to "live our best life" and sometimes we may need to reach for a trusting hand to help us manifest it.

I chose to become a therapist after working as a classroom educator for 21 years, because I saw that the needs of my students were not being met through the educational system or through their family system. Today, we all face a variety of emotional issues that are difficult for to express, name, and discuss. Many people feel as if no one is listening or will listen to them, especially adults on the Autism Spectrum who already struggle with communication. I want to help empower all people on the Autism Spectrum and their support systems.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
