Sometimes this world is not the easiest place to live as we do not have control over every circumstance. We do, however, have control over how we respond to life situations we encounter. As humans, controlling our behaviors, our thoughts, our feelings can be a struggle at times. Therapy is a safe place to process, to learn, to grow so that we can react more effectively to life circumstances and to gain more authority over our lives. Each person and situation is unique. Candice approaches each individual/couple/family from a non-judgmental perspective provided with empathy, challenge, and guidance.

The Mind's Place Bring all your baggage and luggage, and learn to release depression, bipolar , schizophrenia, ADHD, ODD, CD and anxiety that is caused by trauma that no one wants to hear.
As a License Professional Counselor, I believe in addressing a client's needs by first accepting that their individual journey is the key in understanding them. The similarities of most people with mental health diagnosis is a common thread of trauma. Each person has experienced events in their life that has caused them distress. Every person decides what the concern has cost their mental health and life. From that foundation, therapy can begin to assist the client in thriving to conquer their situations with the disorder or learn to cope with them to live a more fuller life.

Where do I begin? How often have we found ourselves battling with this question? So much of our time and energy is centered among all the wrong things transpiring in our world. We often can’t even touch base with a glimpse of hope because worry, anxiety, fear, and distress suffocate our existence. When asked the question, “How are you today?” have you ever felt the weight of so much despair that you can rarely designate one response to fulfill the depths and brutal truth of, “not good.” Well, you’re not alone.

Have recent changes in your everyday life kept you from reaching your full potential? Maybe you have found yourself overwhelmed with all of your "hats" that seem to be any combination of marriage, divorce, career changes, grief, or parenthood. So many of our daily habits are shaped around how our bodies respond to stress, past trauma, and unhealthy coping patterns, yet all of our roles leave us with little time actually to deal with them. No worries though, I am here to help! We can work together to practice healthy ways to respond to our emotions as they come and get you closer to living a life rooted in acceptance and confidence.

I am currently not taking new clients, but we have other therapist at my office who are. Please call! At my office, I hope to make sure all feel welcome. I want my clients to know that I hear you and I see you; your pain matters. Brutality at the hands of others is hard to process, but I hope we can go on that journey together. I specialize in trauma recovery, but also treat a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship problems, and more severe disorders. I work with my client to find what therapy methods work best for her/him/them, as we are all different individuals with different needs.

Bipolar Disorder Therapists

What is the most successful approach to treating bipolar disorder?

Living with bipolar disorder can be challenging, and a number of therapies have been found effective in providing support to patients as they gain the skills to understand and manage the disorder. Family-focused therapy is often helpful for children and teens (the majority of cases develop before age 19); it aims to minimize mood cycling by improving family communication and reducing conflict. It also helps young people navigate the developmental challenges the disorder can create. Cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) and variants such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) help patients manage the thoughts and feelings that influence bipolar mood swings as well as develop specific behavioral strategies to counteract them.

What happens in therapy for bipolar disorder?

Because the patterns of mood switching and its triggers differ for each person and can change over time, mood tracking or monitoring becomes a basic way patients learn about the nature of their condition. One of the most common features of therapy is finding a workable method of mood monitoring, in which patients track their daily activities and rate their moods, then use the findings to adjust routines accordingly. Patients learn ways of handling the many stresses that arise in life so that they do not trigger mood swings.

What kinds of problems does therapy help with?

Like many other mental health disorders, BPD is heavily influenced by stress; therapy provides skills for coping with stressors of all kinds. Therapy is extremely important for helping individuals identify the situations that may trigger mood switching, so that mood swings can be prevented. Therapy may especially target recognition of the early stages of mood change so that they can be managed. In addition, therapy helps patients deal with the significant amount of turbulence the disorder can create in relationships and in work life.

What is the goal of therapy for bipolar disorder?

Therapy helps patients set up their lives to maintain stability so that their mood isn’t constantly threatened by daily events. Perhaps the first task of therapy is to educate people about the nature of the disorder. At the same time, a primary goal of therapy is to enhance adherence to drug treatment. Extended periods of mood stability can prompt patients to discontinue medication, triggering relapse, while the early phases of manic episodes can feel so energizing that patients stop medication, ushering in full-blown mania and the altered self-perception that can lead to destructive behaviors. Another major goal of therapy is to understand one’s mood patterns so as to minimize both the frequency and intensity of mood cycling.
