Struggling with trauma, body image, or the pressure to always perform at your best can feel exhausting. Many of my clients come to me feeling overwhelmed—trapped in cycles of anxiety, perfectionism, or self-doubt. Some are athletes who have spent years pushing their bodies to the limit, only to feel disconnected from them. Others find themselves caught in patterns with food and exercise that feel impossible to break. No matter the story, they all want the same thing: to feel more present, more at peace, and more in control of their lives.

The majority of my clients come to me with symptoms that respond well to LENS Neurofeedback therapy. LENS has been extremely effective for treating Anxiety, ADD/ADHD, Depression and symptoms of Concussion such as feelings of Overwhelm, Brain Fog, Explosiveness. Substance abuse treatment is the second most common reason clients come to me. I offer support and direction for my client's transition to a clean and sober life from the prospective of someone who has been successful in his own recovery for over 20 years. LENS Neurofeedback is also increasingly being used in addictions treatment as it improves motivation and self-esteem.

It is at these times when we may need help in overcoming these challenges; challenges like depression, anxiety, grief or loss, unresolved trauma, sleep disturbances, anger, or even alcohol or substance use concerns.
Working collaboratively, we can create a plan which will help to identify the specific challenges that are causing your distress, the thoughts and emotions associated with the cause, and the development of new skills and techniques that can be used to help you regain control over your thoughts, emotions, and your life.

Therapy is a growth experience that can influence the way you view the world and yourself. As humans, we all experience times of discomfort and life transitions. Therapy is not only for those suffering from addiction or mental illness. It is also a way to gain skills, enhance your performance, and learn more about yourself. Barriers to becoming who you want to be can be explored in therapy and work to re-building life, relationships, and even your career.

My career as a counselor began in 1997;however, I was certified. I have returned to the University of Lenoir Rhyne College and now have a Masters in Mental Health Counseling. I am dually licensed mental health and substance abuse. Personally, I believe counseling has a stigma, unwarranted. Everyone needs help during difficult times in our life and I am speaking from experience. After my mother died, I felt a sense of loss and desperation. I realized in healing it was something I couldn't do alone. I am thankful for my grief counselor. Now I hope to provide the same refuge for anyone hurting. Please try! I will help!

Are you thriving—or simply surviving? As women, we carry the weight of many roles—wife, mother, caregiver, daughter, colleague, and professional. That weight often leads to burnout, anxiety, grief, depression, blurred boundaries, and people-pleasing. Life isn’t meant to be navigated alone, and you don’t have to keep carrying it by yourself. I help women and healthcare professionals move from overwhelm and self-doubt toward calm, clarity, and renewed purpose. Together, we’ll build lasting growth that supports you through life’s transitions.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
