Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you react to it... We will work together in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment to increase understanding of which life choices have been healthy and adaptive, and which ones can be learned from and improved. There are no mistakes, as long as one learns from them.

I’m not your typical therapist. I am dynamic in the sense that I’ve been trained in many different evidenced-based models, theories, and techniques, but the therapy that I provide derives from what is needed most by the client sitting in front of me. I do not “follow the rules” of conventional talk therapy. I’m fun, and energetic. Most importantly, I’m REAL. I don’t mind being direct when necessary, and I think it’s OK to sometimes disclose information about myself; after all, the passion and interest that I have for helping others is directly related to my lived experience of trying to ground myself in an unsettled world.

Stress, anxiety, uncertainty, and fear can feel overwhelming. You may find yourself turning to drugs or alcohol, harmful eating patterns, self-harm, or fall back on other old habits to cope with your emotions. You may be navigating your gender and sexual identify. Or perhaps you are concerned that your teenager is dealing with some of these issues. Whatever you are facing, you are not alone! I am still only seeing clients via tele-health. In a free first session we will discuss working together on-line. I use a combination of IFS (Internal Family Systems) and EMDR. IFS is an extraordinary therapy. In safe, gentle, respectful ways, IFS accesses and TRANSFORMS that which is the cause of your problems: your hidden and not-so-hidden fears, shame, anger, hurt… why you have negative thinking (I’m not good enough, things are not the way I want them to be), as well as the negative ways you may be acting (in anger, critical, impatient, abusing substances). I use a special on-line platform for EMDR which I am finding works well.

Many days, pressure from others’ expectations can be mentally, physically & emotionally draining. It seems you are never good enough, always pushing toward perfection. Working hard, putting time in day and night, struggling to perform at work, school, home, with sports, family and peers. This can lead to overwhelming amounts of stress, fear, sadness, conflict, and irritability, impacting choices made. You want to feel valued and accepted, and are told to be mentally tough and stay strong. On the inside you are nervous, and fear failure. Outside pressure can be overwhelming, bringing feelings of self doubt, and fear.

Sometimes we find ourselves submerged in complicated feelings that are confusing and scary. This is like a window into some of the core truths of our inner lives--of internalized relationships, longings, and past experiences. I accompany people through an exploration of this inner life and provide a supportive space to move through stuck points, process issues towards closure, and emerge to more genuinely appreciate your life and relationships.

We are bio-psycho-social beings, and an imbalance in one area affects the others. Therapy is a process that can enable you to identify what is making you struggle in your relationships, in your physical body and with your mental health. It can help you find unique ways to make the changes that will empower you to become more resilient and capable of coping with difficult situations, as part of an ongoing learning experience. I believe that each person is a singular and unique human being. With that mindset, I understand my clients own idiosyncratic style, and unique ways of perceiving and managing conflicts.

My passion for therapy comes from seeing family members, friends, and peers go through life transitions and hardships. We all have dark days, and sometimes we need someone to hold the candle for us when we have lost the will to hold it for ourselves. Our values, beliefs, culture, and life experiences make us who we are. When those initial beliefs no longer work to maintain our daily lives, we begin to feel stuck. I can provide a calming, safe space to help you get unstuck, and become a better version of yourself.

You have a story to tell. Whether it's the biggest secret you have, or if you've told it all before, something about your story is preventing you from living the life you want. With you as the expert in your life, I hope to walk along side you and be a witness to your story, providing guidance tailored to your needs along the way. Together we will collaborate until you feel able to tell your story the way you want to, or perhaps re-write it all together.

What type of Hendersonville mental health professional is right for me?
While most types of therapy have a lot in common, they also fall into clusters that share core features, such as cognitive therapies or psychodynamic approaches. It is important to seek someone who practices evidence-based therapy, meaning one or more forms of treatment that have been scientifically evaluated and tested, and demonstrate consistent improvement for a majority of patients.

If you are unsure about choosing the right therapist, it might be useful to first learn more about therapy types and modalities.
How to find a therapist in Hendersonville?

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues.
