My aspiration is to attract the
couples
that I can help the most to my practice of Imago
Relationship
Therapy. These may be
couples
who are in a basically sound
relationship
that they would like to deepen and invigorate,
couples
who are stuck in unfulfilling patterns that they would like to transform, and
couples
who are wondering whether it is too late to recover the feelings of closeness and vitality that they once had. What all of these
couples
share is a mutual willingness and perseverance to do the work required, and to put in the time needed, to discover the full potential in their relationships.

Intrusive thoughts? Feelings of dread?
Relationship
issues or communication challenges? Trauma, anxiety, attachment wounds, & other mental health challenges all have a way of coming out in areas where we don’t want them. Therapy can help by providing a safe space to process everything from daily stressors to deeply traumatic events, break generational patterns, & learn healthy coping skills along the way. In my practice I believe in a person-centered approach putting you in control while using an eclectic mix of CBT, DBT, polyvagal theory, trauma focused CBT, & psychodynamic therapy; all from an attachment and trauma informed lens.

Life. It’s about how well we navigate the world around us; our family, friends,
partner
, career, health, financial obligations, etc. Our happiness is dependent on our capacity to keep “it” together. When one of these is confronted with a challenge, life begins to feel unbalanced. It’s that easy to lose our grasp on happiness. When this happens, life becomes more about survival and getting through the day than it does about savoring the moments and counting our blessings. This is where I can help. Together we will focus on life’s challenges and together we will find the opportunities to reclaim and maintain your Complete Peace.

Part of the work involves looking at negative self-talk and changing your
relationship
with yourself to one that is kinder and more compassionate.
Depression, anxiety, fear and grief are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we experience in life. Some of us have endured stress, loss or trauma that sets us up for emotional challenges; others have inherited differences that make coping with life more difficult. There are lots of reasons why so many of us find ourselves needing mental health support. Counseling can help you learn how to overcome symptoms, experience relief, restore relationships and maintain recovery. Through evidence-based, individualized treatment, we will work together to recover inner peace, instill hope and open a path to joy.

A strong
relationship
between you, your family, and your therapist are vital.
Change can be difficult. Therapy provides support as you adapt to life's countless changes and curveballs. As a clinical social worker, I have spent time working alongside teens, young adults, and adults as they work through issues varying from hospitalization to exploring substance use and its effects on daily life, behavioral issues, and family conflict. I draw extensively from Maslow's hierarchy of needs and help clients explore their immediate basic needs and safety while addressing love and belonging, self-esteem, and spiritual aspects of daily life.

Focused
Couples
Therapy & the Adlerian Healing of Early Memories work.
People often enter therapy during times of emotional pain, uncertainty or at a time when they are seeking more meaning in their lives. Each person has within them a powerful impulse toward growth and healing. I trust that impulse and trust the therapeutic
relationship
to reveal your strengths, wisdom, and the next steps to your growth and healing. There is something of value in even the most difficult circumstances. When these circumstances are approached with an openness to learning, major transformations can take place. I find that the willingness to look inside yourself is a key factor in your healing.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
