I work from an attachment-based framework, and incorporate the IFS model.
Accepting New Clients! I’m not your typical therapist. I am dynamic in the sense that I’ve been trained in many different evidenced-based models, theories, and techniques, but the therapy that I provide derives from what is needed most by the client sitting in front of me. I do not “follow the rules” of conventional talk therapy. I’m fun, energetic and real. I don’t mind being direct when necessary, and I think it’s okay to sometimes disclose information about myself; after all, the passion and interest that I have for helping others is directly related to my lived experience of trying to ground myself in an unsettled world.

In addition to trauma work, my other areas of focus are on attachment-based parenting and breaking intergenerational patterns, and in treating anxiety related disorders.
Intrusive thoughts? Feelings of dread? Relationship issues or communication challenges? Trauma, anxiety, attachment wounds, & other mental health challenges all have a way of coming out in areas where we don’t want them. Therapy can help by providing a safe space to process everything from daily stressors to deeply traumatic events, break generational patterns, & learn healthy coping skills along the way. In my practice I believe in a person-centered approach putting you in control while using an eclectic mix of CBT, DBT, EMDR, & psychodynamic therapy; all from an attachment and trauma informed lens.

If you are in a relationship that feels stuck. Or you and or your partner cannot figure out whether to stay or whether to go. One partner may be leaning in and the other is leaning out of relationship, couples therapy can support you where you are and help you move forward. It's time to get to the underlying issues. It's not about improving communication skills, that's pretty easy! The hard part is being in honest conversation. Sharing things that aren't easily spoken. What is truly hoIding your relationship back from mutual understanding and support? If you desire a new, improved connection with your partner, I would love to help.

My ideal client is willing to rethink what therapy looks and feels like - being open to a variety of techniques; collaborating; and engaging body, mind, and emotions, particularly in the outdoors. I conduct experiential outdoor sessions (when weather permits), helping clients in connecting with themselves by grounding in the supportive power of nature. Walking and talking in an outdoor space allows us to engage in an informal environment, while still providing therapeutic benefits.

People often enter therapy during times of emotional pain, uncertainty or at a time when they are seeking more meaning in their lives. Each person has within them a powerful impulse toward growth and healing. I trust that impulse and trust the therapeutic relationship to reveal your strengths, wisdom, and the next steps to your growth and healing. There is something of value in even the most difficult circumstances. When these circumstances are approached with an openness to learning, major transformations can take place. I find that the willingness to look inside yourself is a key factor in your healing.

Depression, anxiety, fear and grief are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we experience in life. Some of us have endured stress, loss or trauma that sets us up for emotional challenges; others have inherited differences that make coping with life more difficult. There are lots of reasons why so many of us find ourselves needing mental health support. Counseling can help you learn how to overcome symptoms, experience relief, restore relationships and maintain recovery. Through evidence-based, individualized treatment, we will work together to recover inner peace, instill hope and open a path to joy.

Do you constantly reminisce back to a time in your life when things just “felt better?” We as humans tend to avoid things that make us uncomfortable, whether it be conversations, places, or even emotions. My goal as your therapist is to support you while you explore what is presently keeping you from feeling better as we identify and address what's keeping you stuck.

Life can be such a challenge especially if we find ourselves walking our path alone. On this journey, my hope is to help guide and provide skill training that will help you increase confidence, self-worth, and self-empowerment. Sometimes things happen that are out of our control and we just want to make sense of it all or best manage our emotions.

Counseling is such meaningful and rewarding work and I am so grateful that I get to do it. My goal is to always be growing as a person right alongside you and to always approach my work with a sense of openness and curiosity rather than judgment. After all, we’re just two humans talking about being human. My hope is that you can learn to further embrace your humanness and leave behind your shame in the process. While talk therapy can be extremely valuable, I recognize that there are some problems that conventional talk therapy can’t quite reach, which is why I typically use a more experiential, trauma-focused approach to counseling.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
