There are times when life overwhelms us. We become anxious, depressed, scared or even angry. These feelings may hijack our best efforts to realize our potential. My goal as your therapist is to focus on your strengths and challenges, helping you let go of patterns that no longer work as you gain insight and move into new possibilities for your life. I adjust my approach to the client's presenting problem, strengths, and treatment goals. Although it has been said many times there is so much truth, "the first step is the most difficult, the journey can be well-worth the effort."

Thank you for taking the first step by shoring up the courage to find me here. “Smooth seas do not make for skillful sailors.” This African proverb so appropriately explains the therapeutic work we will do together. Metaphorically, as we identify the issues and curiosities you bring into counseling, we become the seas; as we work together to explore and notice the things surrounding us, we develop a therapeutic alliance; we then become the sailors. We navigate the waters using therapeutic tools; we practice in a safe space, and build capacity in you, the soon skillful sailor. Reach my website: www.counselingteaandtherapypllc.com

I recognize it can be hard to reach out for help as well as make the time and space for yourself during the everyday craziness of life. We often put everyone else ahead of our own needs and put ourselves last and our needs on hold. Time just seems to fly by and nothing changes. By the time we are looking for a therapist or reaching out for help, we are overwhelmed and need support now. You may feel exhausted and may not even know where to start to make things better.

Need help figuring out why your relationship just keeps doing the same thing over and over? Do you feel like no one is actually hearing what you? Is it hard to get past something that happened a while back? We often keep repeating things because we think if we just do it again or do differently we'll finally unlock the barrier that's held us back. My people come to see me after trying something over and over and they feel defeated. Often, the secret is a small tweak from a slightly different angle that helps with trauma, anxiety, depression, communication, and/or relationships.

As a potential client, know that your courage to face personal vulnerabilities and uncertainties is acknowledged from the start. To realize and understand the efforts you've made already affords us early opportunities to consider possibilities in therapy. Your desired outcome is the goal. The process of sharing, reflecting, and adjusting any internal and relational patterns is our therapy means to this end. The clinical approaches perhaps most reflective in therapy are cognitive-behavioral, inter-personal and family systems, and acceptance/commitment. Interventions are based on your child/family, couple, and individual needs.

Beginning therapy can be the most vulnerable and brave step a person can take towards getting the help they deserve. It can be overwhelming to think of opening up to a new therapist about one’s innermost challenges without knowing if they will judge you or invalidate you altogether. That is why I strive to provide all my clients with a safe and affirming space. As a contextual therapist, I believe that change is best facilitated by exploring your family-of-origin relationships and tracking patterns in current relationships to help you understand how to work towards healing past wounds and strengthening those relationships.

Life can be overwhelming, leaving you feeling anxious and disconnected from yourself and those around you. If you find yourself struggling with difficult emotions, know that seeking support from a therapist is an empowering choice. Therapy offers a safe space to let the pain and frustration out. A chance to find acceptance, connection, and healing. Trusting another person can be unfamiliar and scary. But the insight and strength you’ll discover can gradually transform your relationships and lead to inner peace.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
