EMDR Therapists in Greenville, NC
For example, I am currently in training to competently do EMDR with clients and hope to be certified in that modality soon.
I love working with my clients! Many come to me depressed, anxious, struggling personally and in their relationships. I try to provide them with hope, perspective, and together we come up with a new plan moving forward. Often, I find clients want to let go of old habits or ways of interacting with loved ones to find more healthy ways to live. We focus on setting healthy boundaries, advocating for oneself, setting goals that will lead to greater happiness, and finding hope in the future. With no exception, I find clients have that inner strength to change within them. Sometimes, they just need a little help along the way!

I am also certified in Trauma Focused CBT trained in EMDR.
I recognize it can be hard to reach out for help as well as make the time and space for yourself during the everyday craziness of life. We often put everyone else ahead of our own needs and put ourselves last and our needs on hold. Time just seems to fly by and nothing changes. By the time we are looking for a therapist or reaching out for help, we are overwhelmed and need support now. You may feel exhausted and may not even know where to start to make things better.

As a therapist, I enjoy challenging clients to see their full potential and make healthy changes to achieve their goals set within our space together. I tend to work with clients on their self-esteem, exploring the ways they view themselves. Although our past cannot be changed, the way we speak to ourselves about our experiences affect both the present and future.

I use Somatic and Attachment-Focused EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help you move toward the deeper healing you’ve been longing for.
I support adults who feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. Many of my clients are carrying grief, trauma, or relational wounds that have left them feeling alone in their pain and unsure how to move forward. You might be feeling anxious, frozen, or chronically stressed. Maybe you're navigating a major loss, facing the same painful dynamics in relationships, or feeling confused about who you are or where you're going. What you’re feeling makes sense. You don't have to hold it alone.

You’re exhausted from trying desperately to balance your needs with the demands of kids, school or work. As a parent you’re struggling to understand where your child is coming from. Does the “parent guilt” creep in while you’re trying to keep all the plates spinning? Maybe you have a child who is anxious, worried, has difficulty sleeping or going to school, or expects perfection. Perhaps you are learning how to parent differently than how you were parented. Balancing caring for you vs. others is hard. Thoughts of anxiety, self-doubt, and concern that you aren't good enough can become a negative self-talk loop in your head.

Life can be overwhelming, leaving you feeling anxious and disconnected from yourself and those around you. If you find yourself struggling with difficult emotions, know that seeking support from a therapist is an empowering choice. Therapy offers a safe space to let the pain and frustration out. A chance to find acceptance, connection, and healing. Trusting another person can be unfamiliar and scary. But the insight and strength you’ll discover can gradually transform your relationships and lead to inner peace.

Using EMDR, Brainspotting, CRM, and somatic work, we’ll build safety, strengthen resources, process trauma stored in the body, rewire survival patterns, heal core wounds, and uncover your deeper truth.
If you've spent most of your life surviving, it can become difficult to tell where your survival strategies end and who you are begins.
Many of the adults I work with have spent years trying to understand why they feel anxious, exhausted, numb, or stuck in patterns they can't seem to change. On the outside they may appear successful, dependable, or high functioning, yet internally they carry chronic self-doubt, perfectionism, shame, difficulty setting boundaries, or a persistent feeling that they are never quite enough. Beneath this is often a nervous system that learned long ago what it needed to do to stay safe.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
