My experiences provided me with insight to work with people struggling with illness, trauma, substance use , death, spiritual, and existential issues – to name a few.
I entered the counseling profession to support individuals that are having difficulties facing life’s challenges. I have found that many people struggle not because they are not capable of overcoming them, but because they do not have the support and/or encouragement they need. I believe that as humanity becomes “busier”, life becomes more complicated affecting relationships and how we see ourselves fitting in the world. Life is often full of difficult and complicated experiences that are difficult to overcome, especially without support. Ultimately, these difficulties distract us from pursuing what enriches our lives.

Working with clients of a variety of ages, I specialize in assisting individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, problematic substance use , or symptoms of trauma.
Something feels off. Something in life just is not working. You feel defeated. Despite numerous successes or reasons you feel you should be happy, you are overcome with sadness, guilt, and shame. You find yourself uncomfortable in your own skin, leading you to avoid everyday life, or overindulging in drugs or alcohol to cope. You feel trapped, and unsure how to fix it. When you make the decision to seek help, it can be an intimidating and overwhelming step to take. As a therapist, I strive to create a space that is safe for clients to be themselves and realize their personal vision for change.

If you are like most of us and despite your best efforts, your story hasn’t gone the way you thought? The struggles of “adulting” or day-to-day life are real no matter your age and they feel stressful and overwhelming. You want to get out of a place of feeling worthless, seeing your relationships suffer, and hurting emotionally, mentally, and even physically, but with every choice you feel more stuck. It is time to take back control of your story and your life - instead of drifting and letting it happen, you can write the life you want to live.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
