Counseling is such a bold and brave step in the process of healing. I believe that healthy development and growth are not reached by the elimination of pain and challenges, but rather in developing healthy methods of understanding, coping with, and responding to pain. This can be a challenging, but a beautiful process, and I am honored to walk with my clients through it. Most of my training is in working with
women
and I enjoy working alongside them as they navigate working through trauma, work/life balance, anxiety, boundary issues, guilt/shame, identity issues, life transitions, self-esteem, depression, and/or loss.

Life can throw all forms of curveballs at us that we cannot control, where we sit and wonder what is going on. In life we get to a point where we stand up and say, I cannot do this alone. When we realize those challenges are too big to tackle alone, I am here to tell you it is okay to ask for help and know that there is support out there.

I believe something very powerful happens when a person gives themselves the space to slow down, connect, and be vulnerable. This can result in living more authentically and fully-whether life is smooth or you're surrounded by pain and suffering. I believe emotional healing is possible and desire to help facilitate clients' processes as much as possible. Together we will create and work towards positive, therapeutic goals. I'm grounded in person-centered counseling, which emphasizes empathy, authenticity, and acceptance. I also often utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, CBT, and Psychodynamic Therapy.

Do you feel dissatisfied with life? Are you struggling with finding purpose? Maybe you notice that you tend to care for others before you care for yourself. You could have a hard time saying “no” or even feel guilty afterwards. These predicaments can stem from not intentionally and holistically honoring our being; mind, body, and spirit. Discipline and consistency, as values of self-care, can be incredibly difficult to implement in a world that’s fast-paced and focused on instant gratification. From racial disparities to social injustice, society forces us to adapt to inequity; how are you caring for you?

I am particularly passionate about helping
women
who are experiencing life changes since I personally know what that's like and have learned to thrive.
If you are wondering what to do now that SHIfT has happened, (that's my acronym for life has changed (shifted) and you don't know what to do), if you're feeling scared and anxious, or so down in the dumps thinking you'll never feel joy again, let's talk. I know that sometimes we all need help to cope. I have helped clients feel better, sometimes as quickly as three sessions, empowering them to help themselves. Clients say that what they appreciate most about working with me is my compassion, understanding, and ability to truly listen.

Are you experiencing disconnection, emotional distance or tension in your relationships? Are there things in your past that you find too difficult to discuss? Do you feel that you are on an emotional roller coaster and you are not sure how to find peace within? These are just a few of the reasons people seek counseling. It is a courageous step to reach out to another and ask them to walk with you in your journey of healing. Through the counseling process there is the promise of feeling more connected to yourself, others and God.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
