I provide individual, group and
family therapy
to children, adolescents and adults.
I once read that, “Strength does not come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming things that you thought you couldn’t.” No one should have to go through life’s obstacles alone. As your therapist, I am here to support you and help you achieve your goals. I pride myself in offering a safe and nonjudgmental environment for growth and healing. It’s my desire that each client leaves my office feeling heard and seen. Together, we will come up with a plan to navigate any concerns or problems that are facing.

I have worked with children, teens, and families for the past sixteen years, first in an educational capacity and then in counseling and mentorship. While in graduate school for counseling, coursework has included
family
systems, marital conflict, crisis, career, human sexuality, and addictive behaviors. My practicum has involved domestic violence and sexual assault victims and perpetrators. My internship has included a very diverse population and a variety of concerns, but I have developed my focus toward teenagers, families, and couples. My passion is to help teens and families achieve their potential and live from a perspective of optimal holistic wellness.

I utilize an empowerment lens to work alongside folks managing issues related to anxiety, ADHD, relational/
family
dysfunction, life transitions, and identity exploration.
I understand how anxious thoughts, a “busy” brain, and unresolved emotional pain makes finding contentment and healthy relationships challenging. My approach is grounded in inherent respect, dignity, and hope. I believe each of us is the expert of our own lives- individually, we contain vital knowledge of our inner world, events that have shaped us, our fears and our dreams. Maybe we notice a restlessness, feeling like a spectator in our own life. Perhaps things seem fine enough on the surface, but we become aware that moments of joy, awe, and connection are increasingly rare. How can we get closer to the life we want?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you have made the right choice by being here. And I know this is hard. You’ve likely been debating seeking help for months, if not years. But I’m so glad you found me and have taken the courageous step of being here.

I have a systemic view of each person in their context.
Therapy is an experience that can benefit everyone. It allows us to take the time to look closely at ourselves. It can help us reflect on how to manage difficult life changes, loneliness and challenging relationships. Everyone experiences sadness and stress. Speaking with a therapist who is nonjudgmental and accepting can help us understand how to meet our professional, personal, and relationship needs. I am a psychotherapist with 15+ years of experience. I use a practical and flexible approach to treat problems such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, life-stage adjustment, and others.

Having over forty years of experience in a variety of settings including
family

family
life education agencies, and employee assistance programs, has given me a broad spectrum of knowledge and experience.
If you are wondering what to do now that SHIfT has happened, (that's my acronym for life has changed (shifted) and you don't know what to do), if you're feeling scared and anxious, or so down in the dumps thinking you'll never feel joy again, let's talk. I know that sometimes we all need help to cope. I have helped clients feel better, sometimes as quickly as three sessions, empowering them to help themselves. Clients say that what they appreciate most about working with me is my compassion, understanding, and ability to truly listen.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
