During any stage of life we are faced with challenges of many kinds. And these trials can keep anyone in the dark, not realizing that hope can be found. If you're someone who is trying to figure out who you are in the world, trying to find their way, or who just needs a solid connection with yourself and others; if you recognize a problem and a longing for change or struggling with overwhelming thoughts and emotions that keep you pushed away, leaving you in the dark, then you’re not alone and I’m here to help.

My journey of helping people started when I was a middle school and high school teacher. While working closely with children, I learned about the emotional and developmental issues that they deal with and how it can leave a lasting effect into adulthood if they do not receive help. As a counselor, I use my knowledge, skills, and empathy to help adults and children deal with what they are struggling with and help them increase control of their lives. I look at each individual as their own person who needs individualistic care. Additionally, I incorporate the values and beliefs of my clients to create the most helpful counseling.

Life can feel overwhelming, and therapy shouldn’t add to the stress. Maybe you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, parenting challenges, recovery, or navigating a major life change. Maybe you feel like you’ve tried to “just deal with it” but it isn’t working anymore. I work with kids, teens, adults, and families who are ready for something different—real conversations, honest feedback, and practical steps that actually help. If you’re looking for a down-to-earth therapist who will meet you where you’re at, you’re in the right place.

I utilize concepts from IFS, ACT, Polyvagal Theory, guided imagery, and mindfulness techniques to help you deepen your understanding of thoughts and behaviors any shifting you would like to make.
Grief has so many faces, whether it's moving spaces, ending a relationship, leaving a job, letting go of an old version of you, or grieving the death of a loved one, grief is something that we all experience. A common phrase I hear in grief work is "I don't know how to do this the right way". I can't say that there is one "right" way to engage with your grief, but we can discover what it means for you together. As someone who had to cultivate a relationship with my grief, I am passionate about helping others do the same. I enjoy working with adults who are experiencing transitions, big or small, and supporting them along the journey

I work with adults from all walks of life, but I particularly enjoy supporting BIPOC women. My patients are often navigating anxiety, depression, or trauma and may be facing challenging life transitions, emotional lows, overthinking, or difficult past experiences. Throughout my life I have become so aware of the importance of having someone who will listen, someone who will offer compassion without judgment. Throughout my career I have strived to place that understanding in focus as I worked with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, personality disorders, and the lifelong pains of trauma.

Voted Utah's Best Therapist 2022 + 2023. My approach centers the wisdom of our body, nature + relationships as valuable components for healing. Under enough stress, all humans make adaptations to survival. These survival strategies do a great job when they are first learned, but when continued outside of the context of their creation, they may reenact + reinforce patterns that are no longer helpful. We work together to identify where patterns began, what behaviors/beliefs were learned for emotional and physical survival + how we can create new ways of interacting in the world that feel more aligned + sustainable.

You are struggling with your past. You feel exhausted, on edge, and stuck in survival mode. Old coping strategies no longer help; instead, you second-guess yourself constantly and fear getting things “wrong.” You worry about others’ reactions and often feel shame you can’t explain. Sleep is disrupted, irritability is high, and concentration is difficult. Relationships feel strained, and intrusive memories keep breaking through. What once helped you survive may now be keeping your nervous system locked in threat—showing up as disconnection, hypervigilance, and a sense of losing control over yourself and your life.

If you’ve tried therapy before but still feel like there’s a missing piece, you’re not alone. Maybe you understand where your anxiety comes from. Maybe you can intellectualize your trauma, recognize unhealthy patterns, and explain why you react the way you do, but something still feels stuck. You may find yourself thinking, “I know better, so why do I still feel this way?” That’s often where deeper trauma work and EMDR can help. I work with adults navigating trauma, anxiety, substance use, identity exploration, and major life transitions. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling exhausted from constantly surviving and overthinking

Practical, structured therapy using CBT to reduce anxiety and break unhelpful patterns, ACT to build flexibility and values-based action, and Solution-Focused tools to create momentum.
Hi, I’m Heather, an LCSW supporting adults, teens, and children 10+ who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, panic, overthinking/rumination, stress, low self-esteem, caregiver burnout, or family conflict. Many clients are exhausted from carrying the mental load, stuck in guilt or people-pleasing, and unsure how to set boundaries without feeling “bad.” Some are navigating complicated relationships with a parent, adult child, or sibling; including periods of distance or estrangement. In therapy, we focus on easing the spiral, building steadier coping, and making clearer decisions with less second-guessing and less rumination.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
