I am eager to help you find your best self. Depression, anxiety, and life challenges can try to steal your happiness, but you have the power within to overcome through goal setting, relaxation techniques, and by building coping skills that can strengthen your resiliency. Sometimes it just takes an unbiased listening ear to provide you with the opportunity to express your feelings and thoughts, creating a safe space for you to process and discover who you are, where you want to go, and how you can get there.

One size fits all is crap, just crap. I try to get to know someone as an individual. My goal is to create a comfortable space and ask questions to encourage someone to explore. I like thinking outside the box and being interactive with therapy. I have found the traditional idea of therapy makes me want to vomit and that is not what you will find here.

I offer telehealth sessions across North Carolina and accept insurance through Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC, Cigna, and Carelon Behavioral Health.
I've been in social work for nearly 30 years. The last 7 of those as a licensed therapist — but the decades before that, working with people in the places life actually happens: families in crisis, communities under strain, individuals trying to hold things together when holding things together was very hard. That kind of experience changes how you listen. It changes what you notice. It changes what you don't get rattled by anymore. I work with adults and older adults, and I bring all of that with me. I'm also honest about the fact that I think therapy doesn't have to be heavy all the time — humor has a real place in this work.

Hello! I believe therapy doesn’t have to feel stiff, sterile, or painfully serious all the time. Sometimes healing involves laughter, honesty, and being fully human, awkward moments and all. I strive to meet people exactly where they are while helping them grow toward where they want to be. I value mutual respect, communication, humor, flexibility, and the freedom to explore your story without shame. In our work together, you’ll be encouraged to challenge old beliefs, rewrite unhelpful narratives, and build healthier ways of thinking, connecting, and experiencing yourself and others — emotionally, mentally, and sexually.

My ideal clients are real people carrying real-life weight: anxiety, trauma, parenting stress, relationship struggles, grief, burnout, and the occasional “Lord, I need a minute” moment. Many come to me feeling overwhelmed, stuck, misunderstood, or tired of pretending they are okay. I help clients slow down, feel seen, make sense of what they are carrying, and build practical tools for healing. My style is compassionate, honest, a little humorous when appropriate, and grounded in creating a space where people can breathe, grow, and feel human again.

My approach to therapy is to assist individuals in accomplishing their goals in this journey we call life. I feel our expectations of others, ourselves and our environment create more stress than we often realize. The good news is we can tame those expectations in order to live a more purposeful life, less driven by stress and greatly assisted by the skills acquired in therapy.

Sometimes we know something isn’t working in our lives—but we’re not sure how to fix it. Maybe you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck in unhelpful patterns, struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem, experiencing relationship challenges, or going through a major life transition. Whatever brings you here, your needs—your why—are at the heart of the work we'll do together. I’m a goal-focused therapist who believes therapy should be active and collaborative—not just sitting on a couch talking about problems. Together, we’ll identify what’s getting in your way and build practical tools to help you move forward.

You just want to be in control of your life rather than your life controlling you. Your mind is always racing. You feel sad, overwhelmed and anxious. Motivation is a struggle, let alone surviving day to day life. Maybe you have experienced several small traumatic events, life altering traumas, or you just feel like your entire life has been one big disastrous train wreck. You are on an emotional roller coaster. Everyone and everything around you come before your own needs.

BlueCross and BlueShield Therapists
Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?
In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?
The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?
An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?
It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?
HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?
Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?
Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?
Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy. Learn more about Insurance Coverage and Finding Affordable Therapy
