My focus is on helping couples and individuals overcome obstacles from their past or present in a manner that allows them to become successful in life now. I recognize how hurts and traumas from our past impact how we feel about ourselves and sometimes come out in our relationships. I strive to assist people in finding their inner strength and develop a stronger sense of self-confidence. My "ideal client" is the individual who desires to no longer be held captive by the events of their past and is ready and motivated to create their best possible life! I also provide LCMHCA supervision for NC.

If you’ve found yourself here, chances are you’ve already tried hard—maybe really hard to make things work. You might have sat through couple’s sessions that left you feeling unseen or cycled through the same painful conversations that never seem to change. It’s exhausting to keep showing up and not see the shift you’re longing for. You want connection, peace, maybe even relief—but it feels out of reach.

Counseling is a voluntary and collaborative process. This requires that you be actively involved and willing to set and work toward specific goals. Counseling is a tool that individuals can use to deal with problems in a way that is best for that individual. Your counselor cannot “fix,” “cure,” or “heal” you in any way. However, unconditional acceptance, listening and understanding, professional expertise, and honest communication can help you reach your goals to achieving a happier, healthier life!

Life changing events bring emotional struggles such as grief, loss and other challenges. Adults may find themselves questioning and asking "Who am I now?" and "Where do I go from here?". Children, preteens and teens may find themselves navigating through new emotions and experiences as they grow and change. The need to explore and understand these new landscapes is critical to making positive and sometimes difficult decisions regarding self expression and life choices. Overall goals often included finding relief of inner conflict, developing confidence and experiencing growth.

Do you want to feel connected again? My clients often feel alone despite being surrounded by people, like are floating through life or lost in a big life transition, that they are ready to heal, but are stuck in the same negative patterns. Many come to therapy with guilt at their inability to be the kind of partner, parent or child they always wanted to be, or just have a sense that something isn't right. I work couples, individuals and children; all hoping to move closer to their authentic self and be witnessed in a safe space. I see my work as creative, person centered, spiritual and systemic.

We all have important stories to share; stories of pain, grief, joy, sorrow. I love to come alongside others as they make sense of their stories and grow in compassion and kindness for themselves. I strive to meet people right where they are and collaborate with them to move in the direction they want to go. I believe that the heart of transformational counseling is a therapeutic relationship centered on trust and safety and I seek to connect with clients in ways that make them feel seen, heard, and known.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
