I focus on creating a supportive space for women and college aged adults who are tired of carrying everything alone. Together, we’ll work toward healing, clarity, and lasting change (at your pace). Many of my clients are thoughtful, and deeply caring individuals who appear capable on the outside, but internally feel overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, or disconnected from themselves. This work is more than a career to me, it’s rooted in compassion, authenticity, and a deep belief in every person has the ability to grow, heal, and reconnect with themselves.

I know finding support can be hard - from deciding you want to open yourself up to and trusting someone else to be a part of that process to realizing there is something you are struggling with. Sometimes the struggle is even finding a therapist who has availability (which can be discouraging in itself, I know!). But realize every step is one in the direction to you being a happier you, and you’re worth the time and energy it takes!
Feel free to take a look at my website to learn more about me. I work with adolescents and adults and have specialized training in Brainspotting and Trauma Focused CBT therapeutic approaches.

I believe life is full of seasons—times of joy, struggle, growth, and change—and we’re all just doing our best to find our way through them. I know what it feels like to question yourself, to feel stuck, or to wonder if you’re heading in the right direction. I’ve also learned that having someone in your corner—someone who listens without judgment and helps you see yourself more clearly—can make all the difference.
For me, this work isn’t just about “therapy.” It’s about connection. I value honesty, humor, and compassion. And I feel honored any time I get to walk alongside someone as they uncover those parts of themselves.

Life in general, can be challenging. I believe in the healing power of telling your story in a judgement-free environment where you feel safe. Research consistently shows it is the quality of the therapeutic relationship, more than any other factor including the method of therapy, predicting the clients’ ability to use therapy to help themselves and make positive life changes. Therapy does not always solve the problems brought to it, but the best chance for success is when there is a strong therapeutic relationship. To me, the critical foundation of our counseling relationship is a partnership based on mutual respect and honesty.

I'm very familiar with physical and sexual abuse, but also with alienation and with spiritual and emotional trauma.
Although there is no formal "sliding scale", I can sometimes offer hardship discounts to established patients, or those actively engaged in volunteer and/or self-help programs. I do not generally offer free initial sessions or lengthy telephone consults, but I am happy to return messages to discuss your questions about therapy and this practice.

In my view, the relationship of feelings and thoughts to behavior is important in understanding all aspects of our lives, including spiritual awareness. I use a variety of strategies that can help people make sense of their world, strategies that are mostly cognitive and insight-oriented in nature. These strategies are based on the notion that the way people see themselves and the world, influences how they feel and behave. For instance, it may be helpful to examine your family relationships to look at patterns of coping skills. We will talk about these strategies during our sessions and decide what will best fit your situation.

Barry helps couples and men in New York and North Carolina untangle the intersection of intimacy, sex, emotion, and identity, especially when anxiety, performance pressure, porn overuse, low desire, or erectile unpredictability have created distance, self‑doubt, or cycles of avoidance. Sessions are active, structured, and shame‑free: we map the feedback loop between physiology, thoughts, attachment patterns, and relational dynamics so interventions feel precise (not generic “talk”).

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
