You made it to the most difficult part: reaching out. Beginning to look for support can often be the hardest step toward meaning, connection, and emotional wellness. I would be honored to hold space for you. Some people seek therapy to have life to feel more fulfilling and to get closer to their authentic selves. Others may be struggling with emotions and stress, and want strategies to reduce the effects of grief or trauma or dealing with internal pain of varying kinds. I enjoy working with people seeking these fundamental needs in life, using an open, relational approach, joining with people on their journey.

I practice from an anti-oppressive, psychodynamic and somatic lens integrated with Internal Family Systems (parts work), EMDR for trauma, and Emotionally Focused Therapy for relationship dynamics.
I enjoy working with individuals who are seeking lasting healing and therapeutic change. You may be experiencing depression, anxiety, or overwhelm that is signaling the need for a different way of living and approaching your life. You may have past trauma and need a safe space to work through this. Old patterns, wounding and trauma live in our bodies and show up in many ways including in relationships, feelings, thoughts, beliefs & body sensations. We will work together to heal and integrate these through a therapeutic approach that is relational, embodied, spirit-oriented and attentive to the culture and larger systems we live in.

I offer individual therapy from a psychodynamic perspective, which means that I want to hear about your past (relationships, parents, etc) and help you connect how that might impact your present day functioning.
Do you struggle with burnout at your job, even though it's something you love? Are you having trouble balancing what you want with what others ask of you? Are you the person that everyone else comes to for help, but you don’t quite know how to help yourself? Or, are you facing a difficult life change, and you're not sure how to manage it while facing other responsibilities? If any of these ring true, know that you've already taken a step to help yourself by seeking therapy. Through our work together, we will develop a comprehensive plan that allows you to move towards what you want, rather than away from what you fear.

My therapeutic approach is rooted in a variety of treatment modalities including Psychodynamic Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
I work with clients to explore the unconscious and increase psychological flexibility through focusing on emotions, interpersonal relationships, exploring past experiences, and identifying recurring patterns. I work to assist my clients with emotional regulation, cultivating personal insight, developing agency, and increasing self-esteem. I value treating all clients with unconditional positive regard, believing in the power of the therapeutic relationship as a change agent. I aim to create an empathic and non-judgmental space for clients to be honest and vulnerable.

I draw from several therapy approaches including relational, psychodynamic , cognitive behavioral (CBT), and mindfulness therapies.
I approach therapy as a collaborative partnership. My style is authentic, nonjudgmental, and compassionate. I think therapy should not be some mysterious process so I provide feedback and tools to help you make changes. Together we identify patterns in your life that are no longer working for you and find new ways of living that give you more of what you want. In my practice I offer individual psychotherapy to adults in person and via tele therapy.

What do I do for a living? I meet with people and talk about the most intimate aspect of their lives. It's not a bad job and I love the work I get to do. While I often draw from a variety of psychological techniques, I am firmly rooted in psychodynamic /psychoanalytic theory which is a really fancy way of saying I believe authentic relationships bring about sincere change in people. As such, I work hard to create a trusting, comfortable space to help clients explore their goals and experience sincere growth.

My practice welcomes clients of all ages and backgrounds. I provide psychotherapy to adults and adolescents, and I also specialize in early childhood work, conducting parent therapy often combined with play therapy with children. My therapeutic approach is largely influenced by insight-oriented psychodynamic and systemic approaches. With this approach I strive to help you find underlying causes for problematic symptoms or patterns of behavior and why they may persist in your life. I believe that through this exploration and discovery you are freed to make different life choices and can lead a more balanced life.

My work is informed by psychodynamic principles and interpersonal psychotherapy.
I have 15 years of experience working with clients with trauma and mood disorders. I also work with people struggling with eating disorders, grief/loss and life transitions. I speak Spanish and have a strong interest in working with Hispanic/Latinx communities. I am a strong advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community. I find tremendous benefit in assisting people with identifying various forms of oppression (e.g., racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.) and understanding how these impact their lives. In my practice, I focus on helping people to free themselves from the effects of difficult, early and ongoing life experiences.

I have an eclectic approach to treatment that include psychodynamic psychotherapy, CBT, Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress, and solution focused therapy.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have worked with adolescents, adults, and families for over 10 years. As a therapist, I believe that we have most of the tools we already need to make change. Therapy is simply a place where these tools can be identified and strengthened. I also believe people make lasting change through interpersonal relationships. Effective therapeutic treatment occurs through a meaningful, empowering, and reparative relationship. In therapy, I focus on relationships and how these impact our past & present relationships. I have experience with trauma, anxiety, depression, and attachment issues.

I offer clients a collaborative approach to address whatever may have brought them to my door. My relationally focused psychodynamic style supports the idea that healing occurs through our connection with others. By providing a safe and solid therapeutic relationship to a person, that person begins to experience a greater range of perspective regarding their own life and the lives around them. With increased self-awareness, individuals are able to recognize that they have more choices in their lives. I have found this to be true regardless of what obstacles a person may be facing.

I have trained in a variety of modalities including contemporary cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic , and experiential.
I work with adolescents, adults, couples and families on a range of things, from family and relationship issues to life transitions, depression and anxiety, grief, larger existential questions, and other things. A particular focus is helping people in crisis manage and make meaning from difficulties. My approach to therapy is supportive, relational, and client-centered, with a focus on how things manifest themselves in the here and now. More than anything, I try to create a safe space for tuning in to feelings, finding balance, healing, and working on change.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
