Other issues I focus on are: relational and attachment trauma, LGBTQ+ issues, challenging family ecosystems, ethical non-monogamy, estrangement from parents, boundary work,
grief
, depression, and anxiety.
If you are curious about your emotions, or feel like you have actively avoided them for years, our sessions will be about slowing down and giving them a large pasture to graze in. I have a passion for helping individuals confront, manage, and contact painful emotions, whether that be from a recent life event or as a result of internalized messages over the course of your life. I have consistently found this to be an incredible challenge for most people: making space to intentionally, directly, sit with emotions usually means sitting in discomfort, pain and the unknown.

, trauma and systemic oppression have increasingly become visible and universal experiences affecting individuals, couples, families and communities. I began my career working with the survivors of intimate partner violence and individuals/families grappling with cancer and
death
. These experiences have informed my practice working with individuals, couples and families dealing with
loss
,
grief
, trauma, anxiety/depression, major life changes, chronic illness, abuse and relational distress.

One of the greatest joys of being a psychologist is seeing and helping individuals and couples create a better life for themselves. Some people I have seen have overcome or at least reduced their level of fear and anxiety.
Some, who had severe depression to the point of experiencing suicidal ideations and wanting to isolate themselves from others, were able to overcome their depression and to live more productive lives.
Some couples, who were on the brink of separation and divorce, were able to resolve their differences and recommit themselves to a better life together.
People who had lost loved ones were able to work through their
grief
and to realize that their loved ones will never be forgotten and will forever remain in their hearts.
These are just a few examples of how people whom I have seen have been able to transform their lives through counseling.
During our session I make every effort to provide a safe, nurturing and empathic environment to make it easier for individuals and couples to share their concerns. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, hypnosis and other methods as necessary to help the person/couples achieve their goals for feeling better about themselves

I believe that good counseling, beginning with a natural fit between client and therapist, can be one of the most important and beneficial experiences of our lives. I am passionate about working with my clients and strive always to bring my natural compassion and creativity to each session. I find I am most helpful to clients struggling with
loss
,
grief
, depression, anxiety, and relationship issues, though I help clients work through other issues as well. Because I am trained in theology as well as psychotherapy, I bring a unique understanding of faith and spirituality to my practice, welcoming clients from any (or no) faith tradition.

I specialize in
grief
and
loss
, attachment wounding, family of origin and interpersonal issues, life transitions, and postpartum hardship.
The question is not, “What’s wrong with you?”, the question is, “What happened to you?” How have you been wounded? Who, or what, have you lost? What strategies have you had to employ, to help you cope and exist in this world? Are they serving you? How connected do you feel to important others in your life, and how connected do you feel to yourself? These are all hard, and essential questions. Together we will work to build self-awareness and insight, self-compassion, and connection to the present and possible future.

Healing happens by moving through things, not by trying to go around them. My focus in the counseling work I do has long been in the fields of
grief
and substance use, especially in terms of where
grief
/
loss
has fed addictive behavior. It makes sense. Big feelings are uncomfortable, especially the ones we consider negative. It is understandable that we try to avoid those feelings but the reality is it doesn’t work. In my work with people I support them in gently and compassionately facing the things they don’t want to face, whether
grief
, addiction, anxiety, trauma or a more general sense of not being the person you want to be.

I AM NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. People's reasons for seeking therapy are as varied as the individuals themselves. For some, therapy is part of a broader approach to life in which insight and inner work are seen as core elements to living well and expansively. For others, the step to seek therapy is taken out of pain and suffering and after much deliberation. At times our internal experiences are so painful, they prevent us from fully engaging in our lives and relationships. Therapy can help you learn to hold with care and confidence all your thoughts, feelings and memories while moving through life in a meaningful way.

Among other areas of practice, I have expertise in mood improvement, insight growth, anxiety, perfectionism,
grief
, learning disabilities, and issues specific to LGBTQIA identity, activists, and first-generation and transfer college students.
It can be both rewarding and vulnerable to begin or continue therapy: I create a warm, non-judgmental space for reworking old patterns that may not serve you anymore. Life experiences, environment, circumstances, and cultural systems of power all shape our understanding of ourselves, of others, and of the world around us. Together we can explore what matters to you most, where you may feel stuck and how you can find more ease. To inform our work, I primarily draw on your history and relational experiences, your own body’s feedback, information from contemporary neuroscience, and our in-session interactions.

You made it to the most difficult part: reaching out. Beginning to look for support can often be the hardest step toward meaning, connection, and emotional wellness. I would be honored to hold space for you. Some people seek therapy to have life to feel more fulfilling and to get closer to their authentic selves. Others may be struggling with emotions and stress, and want strategies to reduce the effects of
grief
or trauma or dealing with internal pain of varying kinds. I enjoy working with people seeking these fundamental needs in life, using an open, relational approach, joining with people on their journey.

I love to collaborate with people and help them uncover their own inner wisdom. Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
