I work individually with adult
women
of all ages. My goal is to support the whole person by encouraging use of her strengths to discover new possibilities in life, and to identify and question thoughts and behaviors that aren't helping her move in a positive direction. Acknowledging the past yet focusing on the present, we collaborate to build resilience and flexibility for facing life's challenges: maintaining healthy relationships, dealing with life changes, illness and loss, work stresses, as well as conditions like anxiety and depression.

Are you an individual who has overcome a lot to find success in life and you find that you "should be" happy, but you can't figure out how to get there? Are you searching for parenting support (post-partum to adult) or are you a person of color who wants to explore and process childhood trauma or current struggles at work or home? Are you a black
woman
who is seeking "the soft life" because it has been hard to ask for help or express feelings because you are afraid to be labeled an "angry black
woman
"? If any of this applies to you, I am the therapist for you.

With over seven years of experience in the educational setting and cultivating lifelong partnerships through empowering
women
, my areas of expertise include therapy for individuals transitioning into new careers, adulthood, relationships, or simply looking to find themselves.
**Practice has immediate openings for new clients**. When was the last time you checked in with you? I’m not talking about your children, partner, your friends, your colleagues, but I’m talking about you. How often do you evaluate your current place in life, then set realistic goals to accomplish life’s milestones? Are you constantly thinking that there has to be more, but you just need help trying to figure it all out? I am here to assist you. My job is to help move you away from the things that no longer work, perhaps they never did, and towards a more ideal way of being.

Hi, I'm Katie! I help
women
and girls thrive in their relationships while living boldly and authentically. So often we can feel stuck, especially in relationships - friendships, romantic relationships, or with family members. Maybe you are exhausted from giving so much of yourself to avoid conflict, or you are so focused on what other people think about you that you neglect yourself. Deep down, you don't believe your feelings and needs matter as much as other peoples'. Maybe you are a mother who sees her daughter struggling with anxiety and low self-worth. You want to see her thriving, but you don't know how to get her there.

But that's not always our experience, especially for
women
-identified, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ folks.
Do you feel safe being who you really are? If you have a marginalized identity or belong to more than one culture, it can be challenging to reconcile who you are with others' expectations of who you should be. Or maybe you usually handle things fine but you've been derailed by a change in your job, health or relationships. To get back on track, you need something that really works for you. Or you've been giving so much to others it feels like there’s nothing left, and self-care is just another item on your To Do list. I get it. I've been there, and what I've learned along the way just might help you too.

I have a particular interest in working with
women
and couples around issues of infertility and pregnancy loss.
I AM NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. People's reasons for seeking therapy are as varied as the individuals themselves. For some, therapy is part of a broader approach to life in which insight and inner work are seen as core elements to living well and expansively. For others, the step to seek therapy is taken out of pain and suffering and after much deliberation. At times our internal experiences are so painful, they prevent us from fully engaging in our lives and relationships. Therapy can help you learn to hold with care and confidence all your thoughts, feelings and memories while moving through life in a meaningful way.

My clients are typically motivated
women

I welcome adults of any background especially LGBTQ+, cis-
women
& AFAB, Latinx, immigrants, and spiritual seekers.
I enjoy working with individuals who are seeking lasting healing and therapeutic change. You may be experiencing depression, anxiety, or overwhelm that is signaling the need for a different way of living and approaching your life. You may have past trauma and need a safe space to work through this. Old patterns, wounding and trauma live in our bodies and show up in many ways including in relationships, feelings, thoughts, beliefs & body sensations. We will work together to heal and integrate these through a therapeutic approach that is relational, embodied, spirit-oriented and attentive to the culture and larger systems we live in.

How can I find a therapist in Durham?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
