My approach is psychodynamic but eclectic, in a way that is inclusive, creative and tailored to your needs. Psychodynamic psychotherapy works on the idea that there is more to be known about ourselves than we think. I am experienced working with clients dealing with depression, anxiety, chronic illness, relationship difficulties, family of origin issues, identity, grief, addiction, and trauma. Whether it is mental or emotional or pain that you are going through, I help you feel more aligned, quieter in your mind to gain insight and clarity.

I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and psychotherapist originally from Fayetteville, NC. My clinical experience has encompassed work with individuals and groups in a diverse array of clinical settings across New England and NC, to include inpatient, mobile crisis and detox units, PHP & IOP programs, community-based outpatient clinics, equine-assisted therapy, college counseling centers, and correctional facilities. Dr. Brooks began his career in mental health and addictions counseling in 1992. Since that time, he has worked in inpatient and outpatient settings as varied as rural community clinics, hospitals, managing clinics in urban communities, directing an international employee assistance program, university counseling centers, and developing and managing treatment programs for executives and professionals. The populations he has served have been just as varied— they include addictions (both substance abuse and behavioral), mental health, individuals and families, adoption, indigent persons, athletes, executives, and professionals.

Christal Nelson is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and substance counselor with 6 years of experience. Before Christal entered the mental health field, she enjoyed a career in EMS and medical transport for approximately 15 years. It was the medical field that fostered her passion to assist in the mental health field, and it also geared her empathy toward grief, trauma, and addictions. In addition, it gave Christal an early insight into burnout and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), so during her tenure as a therapist she became certified in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).
