We are living in a world that is becoming more and more fast paced. Sometimes the pressure of this fast paced life can leave us feeling overwhelmed and filled with a lot of negative thoughts. Are there moments when that pressure and those negative thoughts fill up so much space that the idea of experiencing self love or providing self with some grace feels like a distant memory if remembered at all? Do you ever feel like no matter how much you try to have a heart to heart conversation with your partner or family member you always end up feeling hurt and misunderstood? You are not alone and I can help if you are ready.

My intention is to normalize facets of the hu man experience and collaborate to create therapeutic space for clients to let go of ways of being that no longer serve them, in order to integrate and make space for those that do.
I facilitate healing work with individuals moving through concerns related to anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, life transitions, grief & loss, stress management, ADHD, codependency, and self-esteem. In my work with clients, I utilize a person-centered approach through an existential lens. Working from this perspective, my goal is to create a nonjudgmental and empathetic healing space for clients to explore and make meaning of their unique experience. In counseling, we work holistically with the body, mind, and spirit in the healing process.

Many of my clients are referred by their minister, physician, or pediatrician.
I work best with an individual client, couple, or the family of a child or adolescent that recognizes that what they have been trying to do to deal with their life or behavioral issues is not working well, and they are now open to finding understanding, and trying new approaches to old, or recently acute problems. My experience has been that most couples really want to save their marriage or other family relationships and will do the work necessary to build a new and loving relationship.

Psychologist Steven Hayes is fond of explaining that a hu man life is not a problem to be solved but something to be experienced and lived.
I believe we heal in connection with others. We grow into ourselves by being heard. That's the whole idea behind how I do therapy. That can involve skills work from various evidence-based models such as DBT, ACT, and internal family systems. It can also look like getting your body moving in nature. Or sometimes just talking; getting stuff out. In my work, I look to treat the whole person and make sure, first of all that you are understood and known. From there we figure out what you need to keep walking forward on what can be a really confusing and difficult path. We will work to make sure you're headed the direction you want to be.

My sole desire is to help provide my clients the tools to overcome adversity, help clients grow into the healthiest individuals they can, and help them build trust within. Rather than run away from our fears and anxieties, lets run towards growth and a healthier version of one's self.

We will collaborate and identified problems in a collaborative manner.
I empathize for today's teens & adults struggling in this ever-changing world. We are faced with immediate decision-making & strain, which is not fair when we're trying to figure who we are, much less what we want to become as adults. We typically feel lost, confused, and misunderstood when communicating to others our needs and even interests, therefore struggle asking for help and support in and outside our homes, schools, and community. Whereas this seems to be a "young person's issue," many of us adults battle these situations as well, struggling with hopelessness and believing we are alone as a result.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
