While I have a specialty in sexuality, my work extends beyond sexual matters.
Welcome! I’m Melany, a mental health therapist and AASECT certified sex therapist based in the Carolinas. I often work with people with sexual concerns that impact their relationships, self esteem, or overall quality of life. I want you to know that if this is you, you are not alone. Sexual concerns can be some of the most challenging and sensitive issues to address, but I believe that they don't have to be a barrier to fulfilling relationships or personal satisfaction. I can help you navigate these complex issues with empathy and knowledge, all while offering a non-judgmental and affirming approach tailored to your needs.

I excel in helping folks overcome any shame or embarrassment they may feel about their sexuality while giving them skills to communicate their needs with confidence.
There is no one in the world quite like you, and that goes for your sexual identity too! If you're like many people, maybe you're struggling to find sexual or relational fulfillment. As a certified sexologist, I help folks experience greater pleasure by tapping into their most authentic self. While sexual challenges are common (e.g., ED, vaginismus, anorgasmia, desire or arousal issues), the solutions are as unique as you and your partner(s) are. There are no cookie-cutter approaches here! I work with you to identify your needs so that we can find an answer that truly benefits you and your situation.

Specialities include premarital assessment and counseling, marital, discernment counseling, affair recovery, intimacy issues, sexual dysfunction, sex addiction/trauma recovery, and spiritual formation, direction, and healing.
The typical clients I work with are like you and me, usually have successful careers, have a faith orientation, although not always, and have a tremendous longing to find, repair, or revitalize something gone wrong in themselves or in relationship with those closest. They are individuals and couples who are hurting at their core, who want more than just a quick fix, a few techniques, or merely a listening ear. They want answers, real, deep, transforming answers. They realize deep down that it is probably going to take longer than they want or expect. But, they are longing and willing to do whatever it takes to get to a better place

I am a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) and have experience helping clients find long-term sobriety from sexual acting out.
I started my career as an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry, working and leading teams for the International Space Station and a satellite mission. Wanting to work more closely with people, I switched to business strategy consulting, traveling to Fortune 100 companies on a weekly basis for two years. While I got the chance to solve complex problems, I realized I wanted to help people solve the problems that mattered to them at a deeper level. This, coupled with my own recovery journey, is what drives me to do exceptional therapy work today.

With my brief-oriented approach, backed by the science of what works in sex therapy and couples counseling, you'll gain clarity, break old patterns, tackle mind-chatter, and experience satisfying sex and intimacy.
Should I stay or should I go? A huge question that's weighed on you. It keeps you up at night, stressing you out. Life would be so much easier if your relationship wasn't so hard. You wish you could communicate better; feel understood. But, damn, your shit and their shit get in the way. Not to mention the pressures of career, aging parents, or demanding children. It all gets thrown in the mix, leaving you exhausted, distracted, and disenchanted by the status quo. You want things to change (better sex, intimacy, connection); you're finally ready to take charge of your life in a new and meaningful way. You've come to the right place!

Sex Therapy

Who is sex therapy for?

Sex problems are common in relationships. Many people want a better sex life and want to feel loved and desired by their partner. It is difficult for couples to resolve sexual problems on their own because people often feel ashamed to talk about their sexual desires fearing they are not normal, when in fact a very broad range of preferences and behaviors are normal. A sex therapist can help clarify this and other matters.

Why do people need sex therapy?

Many people do not know how to talk about their erotic needs or their emotional needs, both of which are addressed in sex therapy. Couples often live with sexual difficulties for years before seeking help, and in that time, partners may experience so much disappointment and alienation that they may fear their problems mean they are incompatible. Once people experience disappointment, it is difficult to find resolution without help.

What happens in sex therapy?

People have many misconceptions about what takes place in sex therapy. First, it is a form of talk therapy in which partners discuss their sexual concerns; it does not involve touching or physical exploration of any kind. Sex therapy typically helps couples get comfortable talking to each other about sex so that, in the privacy of their home life, they can openly discuss their sexual desires and make decisions about what they want to do. Couples are typically assigned activities to do at home that build intimacy skills.

What kinds of problems do sex therapists treat?

Very often, partners differ in their degree of sexual desire and struggle over how often to have sex. Or they may have fights about porn use or have difficulty connecting sexually after one partner is unfaithful. Men may have problems with premature ejaculation. Women may find themselves struggling to become aroused or to achieve an orgasm. Sometimes partners feel like they have lost the sense of attraction to their partner. These are all common issues dealt with in sex therapy.
