Working in outpatient private practice settings, school wellness centers, community mental health centers, and prisons has allowed me to meet and work with adults, couples, and adolescents from diverse backgrounds facing a wide range of challenges. Many clients have shared with me that I have successfully made the therapeutic experience less stressful for them. I have been able to put them at ease and feel safe and understood. The clients I work with feel accepted and not judged for who they are, what they have or have not done, or the emotional state they are in when they start therapy.

Twenty years in this field has taught me one thing: the "letters" after my name matter far less than the connection we build in the room. Whether you are a teen trying to find your voice or an adult searching for clarity, you deserve a space where you feel understood, not just "diagnosed."

You’re always exhausted. The alarm clock buzzes, and you struggle to open your eyes. The blanket feels like it’s made of lead as you attempt to get out of bed. It’s the same every morning, and things only worsen from there. You sleepwalk through each day in a thick, hazy fog. You’re not fully present, but you go through the motions because you’re supposed to. It’s getting difficult to remember a time when you actually felt good, and you can’t imagine ever feeling happy again. You've tried fixing your problems, but no solution lasts for long. You know that something needs to change, but you don’t know how. It feels hopeless!

You have become disconnected from your joy - you aren’t living the life you envisioned for yourself. The ground beneath your feet shakes influenced by unknown forces that seem beyond your control and understanding. Your days are marked by despair, shame, and frustration. Past events continue to intrude upon the present creating an overwhelming sense of stuck-ness as though time is moving forward without you. You find it difficult to connect with those you love due to fear of exposure and the potential pain that may arise through the development of intimacy.

I believe it is my job to collaborate with my clients to create a Narrative that feels authentic and attuned, and goes beyond binary thinking. We often get lost in what we feel like we should or can't do, which confines us in little boxes that make it hard for us to feel vibrant and celebrate our uniqueness. When we explore and deconstruct the social constraints and the context of the environment that shaped us, we begin to discover the biases that don't align with our personal experiences or beliefs. This grants the autonomy and freedom to get in touch with our most core self and better understand how we interact with our world.

I am passionate about helping clients develop stronger and happier relationships with themselves and their loved ones, as I believe the quality of these dynamics determines the quality of our lives. I enjoy working alongside individuals as we navigate the patterns and events of their past and present in the hopes of creating healthier and more fulfilling futures. I also enjoy working with couples to help them better understand how their individual patterns show up in their relationship in order to deepen the connection with themselves and their partners.

Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by stress, self-doubt, or painful past experiences. They want a safe, affirming space to be heard and understood, along with practical tools to feel more grounded and resilient. I work especially with women, immigrants, queer communities, survivors of violence and racial injustice, and people seeking psychedelic integration. Clinically, I focus on trauma, depression, and anxiety disorders. My work is guided by my belief in each person’s power to reflect on one’s life, understand the self and others from multiple perspectives, and integrate supportive lifestyle changes.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
