EMDR Therapists in Charlotte, NC

I use an eclectic approach and have been trained in EMDR, DBT & Gottman Level 1.
Let me pour you a cup of tea or coffee and lets talk. I am incredibly proud of you for taking the first step towards your mental health journey. Life is too short to let our trauma control us, bad relationships consume us, and have our anxiety and depression overwhelm us. That is why I want to help you achieve the happiness in life that you deserve. I want you to find your purpose and flourish. I work with those who are struggling with life or work stress, relationship issues, anxiety and depression, body image, low self-esteem, and existential issues.

I offer both traditional talk therapy and EMDR in sessions to support my clients as they seek to understand their lived experience.
Therapy is highly personal and my approach is as well. I use a combination of EMDR and traditional therapeutic approaches to help the client to meet the difficulties in their life with more understanding about their emotional responses, tolerance for life’s surprises, and a greater sense of control over themselves.

I offer EMDR trauma therapy, as well.
I also specialize in sexual problems, affairs, rebuilding romance, and emotional and sexual intimacy. I have advanced training in sexual addiction treatment. If clients are open to it, I often give them handouts or homework to do during the week. I don't believe in forcing the client to do something that isn't working. Together, we'll figure things out.

I utilize a strengths-based, person-centered approach, utilizing CBT, ACT, EMDR and solution-focused modalities.
Life can feel like a whirlwind at times. If you find yourself tangled in overthinking, caught in cycles of indecision, or weighed down by low mood or motivation, I'm here to support you. Typically, you're the one with it all together—driven, self-motivated, and in tune with yourself. But sometimes, self-care takes a back seat, and you feel stuck in patterns that seem impossible to break. Often, we wait for things around us to shift, hoping for external change. Yet, true change starts from within, and I’m here to guide you on that journey.

My approach is integrative and trauma-informed, drawing primarily from EMDR, mindfulness-based practices, IFS, and psychodynamic therapy.
Many of the individuals I work with are navigating the effects of relational trauma — such as attachment wounds, repeated patterns with unavailable partners, or difficulty forming secure relationships. These struggles often show up as anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing, low self-worth, or challenges with boundaries. Some come to therapy during life transitions or periods of overwhelm, unsure how to move forward. Whether you're seeking relief, clarity, or deeper healing, therapy offers space to explore what’s beneath the surface and move toward greater self-understanding and connection.

I integrate ACT, IFS, EMDR, somatic experiencing, and relational models - blending strong clinical training with a deeply human connection.
The way I practice is really grounded in care - real, human care. I’m a clinical psychologist, but more than that, I’m someone who shows up fully. I take this work seriously, and personally. I work with people who are doing well in many ways, or who’ve already done a lot of work and gained insight, but still feel stuck - or burned out - or like something’s off and they can’t quite put their finger on it. Sometimes it’s been building for years, and sometimes something recent just knocks the wind out of you - loss, affairs, medical stress, relationship conflicts, or life suddenly not making sense the way it used to.

I have completed several areas of specialized training, including Gottman, EMDR, complex trauma, PTSD, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and doctoral research focused on posttraumatic growth.
If you have had painful past experiences, you may feel stuck or as if you aren't really living your life. That painful past may suddenly rear its head in the present or create a feeling that it has never really let you go. You may be experiencing panic, racing heartrate, or be feeling trapped, or you could suddenly find yourself back in those painful past events. The world that you once knew may no longer make sense to you or you may have not ever really feel safe or cared for. Relationships can feel fragile, risky, or perilous.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
