Learning to slow down and open up to another person can awaken some of our deepest challenges as humans. I work with helping high-achieving women heal family-of-origin issues to build more secure, fulfilling relationships. Many of my clients are capable, thoughtful, and successful, yet find themselves feeling overextended, emotionally disconnected, confused or carrying more than their fair share in relationships with partners, family, or friends. If you’re tired of holding it all together and want your relationships to feel more balanced and easeful, therapy can be a meaningful place to start.

My approach utilizes modalities including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting, and Sandtray to honor your body’s wisdom and the many parts of you that have developed over time.
Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially if you’ve learned that in order to feel safe you need to live in your head and minimize your needs. My hope is to offer a space where you can exhale; a space where your whole story is welcome. I specialize in working with trauma, anxiety, and OCD with particular attention to attachment wounds, inner child healing, and the impact of early relational experiences. Many of us carry protective strategies that once helped us survive but now keep us feeling stuck and disconnected. Together, we’ll explore these patterns with curiosity and compassion, gently uncovering their roots.

All are welcome here. As a relational therapist I understand that our relationships, or lack thereof, inform the kind of stories we tell ourselves about the world around us. Identity, intimacy, and feelings of belonging are all tied to the relationships we've formed. Clients often come to me when they are experiencing some form of disconnection within their lives; sometimes with others and sometimes with theirselves. The purpose of our work together is to repair these areas of disconnection so that you may experience a more joyful life.

I believe therapy is a unique gift you can give yourself, yet finding a therapist that will make you feel like they 'get you', can be daunting and paralyzing. The first step of making a phone call and appointment might fill you with dread, fear, shame or hopelessness. For you to feel safe enough to share your struggles with me, I will have to earn your trust. As we begin our work, I will make every effort to meet you with genuine warmth, openness and patience.

I have learned that I am not for everyone and everyone is not for me. I am a whole vibe professionally speaking. Therapy is a journey one in which the client is in the drivers seat and the therapist is in the passenger seat, shotgun! The client that wants to get to the root of the pain, hurt, awkwardness, craziness, sadness, the list goes on is a great match with Ms. Tam. The client that also pulls from hope, spirit, experience, the unknown is a match with me. Its helpful for the client to remain open throughout at least 3-6 sessions after the assessment in order to fully rate symptom change.

How does brainspotting work?
Brainspotting works by using eye positioning to identify and process traumatic memories so that a client is better able to move forward and live with less fear. The theory behind brainspotting is that by identifying where a person looks when thinking of traumatic memories, a therapist will be able to guide them to focus on that spot and work with the client to get them out of the “fight, flight, freeze” response associated with the traumatic memory.
Is brainspotting an evidence-based therapy?
Brainspotting is a theory-based alternative therapy. It is one of the newest forms of treatment, so very little research has been completed that examines the mechanism by which it works. The theory behind brainspotting is that eye position can be linked to areas of the brain that store and process memory.
How effective is brainspotting?
Because it is such a new treatment, the effectiveness of brainspotting cannot be quantified. Some people have found it to be effective on its own, or in conjunction with other types of therapy. It is considered an alternative therapy, and it is popular with people for whom more traditional therapies have proven ineffective.
How long does brainspotting take to work?
A typical brainspotting session will last between 60 to 90 minutes. There is no required number of sessions needed to complete brainspotting therapy, but in many cases it is delivered over the course of about six sessions. Clients are encouraged to rate their level of distress prior to a session and again following a session, and to track progress.
