I enjoy trans & LGB issues,
adolescent
/young adult issues, life transitions, and healing from impactful life experiences.
Many of the people that we work with come for help uncovering and empowering their authentic selves. We often don't realize how deeply we are shaped over time by our social experiences and it can be overwhelming to sort through alone. Along the way, we often address anxiety, depression, gender, relationships, and interpersonal trauma experiences. The space we create together is aimed to foster internal communication between the different 'parts' of yourself in order to heal, grow, thrive, and find peace and confidence. We can explore together in the private safe space we build together or can invite loved ones to join at times.

Throughout my experience I have seen the benefits of strong parent support in therapy and encourage parents of
teen
clients to take an active role in their teens therapy when and where appropriate.
After 10 years of experience I have found a passion working with adolescents and young adults. I spent much of my time working in acute settings with self-harm and suicidal thoughts as a result of trauma, depression, anxiety, and a variety of other diagnoses. I enjoy helping my clients gain a better understanding of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and how they are connected. We work together to gain skills to better manage, cope, and communicate difficult emotions in a health way. In addition, I enjoy helping teens strengthen their ability to communicate to parents and their supports. I currently see ages 13-25

Making sense of trauma, anxiety, relationships, and complex emotions can often lead to confusion and shame. You may feel lost in painful cycles, held back by negative voices, or filled with self-doubt. Meeting with a counselor can help you find clarity and renew confidence. As vulnerable as it is to invite someone else into your story, it’s hard to untangle your inner web of thoughts and feelings on your own. I provide counseling services for women and
teen
girls who need compassionate and practical support navigating life’s challenges.

Parenting adolescents is challenging. As your
teen
gets older, they may show signs of struggling in some or many areas of their lives. You may notice personality changes, or they no longer have the same interests or no longer seem motivated. You’ve read books, tried different strategies and tried to communicate with your
teen
, but there has not been sustained change. You know that your
teen
has potential, but how do you help them find it? Looking for outside help, can be a scary step, with many questions. Will someone be able to connect with my
teen
, am I able to trust that person/will my
teen
be able to?

Are you a parent concerned about your teens shift in behavior or mood? You may be confused whether it is "regular
teen
" stuff or something more. You miss your happy, carefree child and wonder if they will ever enjoy life again. Imagine what it would be like for them to have their confidence back and skills to manage difficult situations and emotions in the future. Your
teen
would feel better about themselves and parents could breath easier knowing their children have the skills to cope and know when and how to ask for help. Life transitions are hard, whether it's going to or graduating from college. It's okay to ask for help.

I approach
adolescent
and adult clients with compassion and genuineness; assisting them while they discover internal resources that will help them cope with past, current, and future experiences.
Asking for help can be hard and you’re brave to be here, taking the first step. I believe that you are the expert of your life and I want to honor that. My goal is to create a welcoming space that allows you to safely process your feelings and learn more about who you are. Some issues we may focus on include the death of a loved one, trauma, depression, anxiety, and/or parenting support. I have served people across the lifespan; meeting children, adolescents, and adults where they are in their journey. As an EMDR Certified Therapist together we can process feelings, memories, and trauma that may be too difficult to manage alone.

What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
