Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists in Charlotte, NC
Marriage is hard for MANY couples. Developing and maintaining good communication, resolving conflict amicably and productively, coping with internal and external stressors… these are challenges that can tear at the fabric of any relationship, making it impossible to create and live a shared vision for life together. And when you’re doing everything you can to keep your head above water in this fast-paced world, friction and resentment can creep into your union without your even realizing it. Stress, demands at work, health concerns, financial strain… it’s not long before you find yourselves growing apart.

I often utilize Exposure and Response Prevention to target OCD symptoms, in addition to other forms of therapy (such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy) to help you learn skills to better manage your anxiety symptoms.
I enjoy working with clients struggling with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), anxiety, and perfectionism. I recognize the challenging cycle of intrusive thoughts, anxiety, obsessive doubt, avoidance, and compulsions, and can help provide some guidance around becoming “unstuck” from difficult patterns that are no longer serving you. If you struggle with using substances or other behavioral addictions to cope, and are wanting to set some goals surrounding your use, I am dually licensed to treat co-occuring substance use as well.

I integrate Cognitive Processing Therapy for trauma, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help clients challenge unhelpful thoughts, build coping strategies, and live with greater resilience, clarity, and self-compassion.
My ideal client is a young adult—often in their late 20s to early 30s—who feels stuck between honoring their culture and building a life that feels authentic. They may be questioning their romantic relationships, unsure if they truly want marriage or if it’s something they feel pressured into. Many of them carry the weight of high family expectations, struggle with boundaries, and feel like they’ve been in survival mode for too long.

My experiences have shaped who I am as an individual and has directly impacted my therapeutic style.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
