I am a Licensed
Marriage
and Family Therapist. I obtained my undergraduate degree in Clinical Psychology and graduate degree in
Marriage
and Family Therapy. My therapy approach is taken from an attachment theory and perspective. I believe humans are wired to feel connected and that we all greatly benefit from healthy relationships. Without this connectedness, we may experience loneliness or isolation. I provide a safe, accepting space for individuals, couples, and families using a positive Existential Therapy Model to support self-awareness, meaningful relationships, and values of life.

My clinical experiences include working with individuals of all ages, pre-
marital
couples, married couples experiencing a range of
marital
difficulties, and families experiencing conflicts, divorce, blending of families and other concerns.
I am passionate about working with individuals and families. I believe the client/ therapist relationship is a critical component of the therapeutic process and place emphasis on maintaining a nonjudgmental, caring, and safe environment for my clients. My compassion and use of evidence-based research models provide a space for me to empower and support clients. I believe that the therapy process is collaborative, both therapist and client work together to develop strategies and tools to help clients transition through stressful times. Using both long and short-term therapy approaches, I create an individual approach for clients.

I can especially help with anxiety, depression, and loss as well as with the unique challenges of single parenting, teaching, caregiving,
marital
conflict, financial stress, estrangement, and bereavement.
Places you come to, places you leave behind, and places you dream of reaching. You have come to one of life’s tough places and found confusion, conflict, and complications. Instead of enjoying life, you are spending much of it on anxiety, disappointment, shame, loneliness, pain, and stress. There are places of greater ease, simplicity, and well-being, where relationships are caring, connections are real, and easefulness is daily. You do have strength to make inroads towards new places and wisdom to find greater calm, acceptance, and enjoyment of your life journey. "On the long, rough road, the sun and moon will continue to shine."

As a
Marriage
and Family Therapist, I am passionate about seeing the family as a system that has strengths and flaws.
Life is difficult. Beginning the process of therapy can also be difficult, but when the process succeeds, an individual can rise above their difficulties through the collaborative work of a fellow journeyer. My ideal client is someone who has aspirations for themselves but is unsure how to satisfy or achieve them. I especially enjoy working with individuals on spiritual and existential issues to work out questions related to their understanding of the meaningfulness of life, connection with others, isolation, and freedom.

Psychology is a science and an art. I see therapy through the same lens. As specific as the brain can be there also has to be some flexibility to really understand how someone thinks. I worked in psychology research for 10 years and have been a therapist for 7 years. I am a National Certified Counselor, a Qualified Supervisor, and will be finishing my PhD in 2023. Most of my research and focus in therapy is centered around women’s issues and the ups and downs that can come with being a female.

Weekday appointments available: My approach to therapy is attachment based psychoanalysis with a trauma focus. All humans have the basic fundamental need to be loved, be seen, and be heard. Our beliefs, feelings, behavior patterns, and relational dynamics are driven by these needs before we could articulate. We learned about our world through our first relationships and these subconscious attachments. We work with the subconscious, identify how your attachment reinforces choices, and unworked through feelings. You may not have an identified traumatic experience; rather, you experienced an event that was too complex to process then.

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
