Accepting New Clients- Sometimes it’s hard to put words to what you’re feeling, especially when emotions feel overwhelming, or relationships feel tense or confusing. I aim to create a space where individuals, couples, and families can show up as they are, feel understood, and thoughtfully work through what’s been weighing on them.

Over the last 6 years, I have experience working with individuals, couples and families struggling with relationships, parenting, and life transitions. I understand the importance of relationships throughout life and utilize my skills to assist parents, couples, and families in building healthy, long-lasting relationships. It is a natural occurrence in all relationships to have periods of highs and lows. Oftentimes the stressors of life make it difficult to heal from the lows and transform your relationships with life’s changing stages.

I use the Othmer method of neurofeedback to help regulate the nervous system, improve emotional stability, and support lasting change. Sometimes it feels like no one truly gets it. You’ve lived through things you didn’t deserve, and now you're trying to find a way forward. You’ve been pushing through, showing up for others, and doing your best — but inside, you feel drained. The things you used to enjoy feel like chores, and peace feels far away. You’re not broken; you’re human. I offer a supportive space where you can slow down, your pain is valid, your story matters, and your healing is possible. Together we’ll work toward self-acceptance, emotional clarity, and the life you’ve been longing to live.

Food is the thing you think about most and talk about least. You have spent years trying to work out what is wrong with you, and you are tired in a way that sleep does not fix. Maybe you are in a transition. A relationship ending, a career shift, a body that suddenly feels unfamiliar. Maybe perimenopause has you questioning everything. Maybe you are wondering whether ADHD explains the masking, the burnout cycles, the working twice as hard just to appear okay. Maybe all of it at once. I am an eating disorder and body image therapist for women in Charlotte. What I have come to understand is that this is rarely about food.

Real change is hard, long-term work not meant to be done alone. Dysfunctions around sexuality, food, money and work (the so-called "process" addictions) are primarily a struggle with intimacy. One needs to understand THE FUNCTION OF one's own self - destructive behaviors: that self hatred is not low self esteem; that contempt for others is not good self concept; that my wife is not the problem; and that sex is not my greatest need. I am several steps ahead of you on a journey I encourage you to take. Real change is hard, don't do it alone. :)

I have served as a child psychologist for the past 20 years. My passion for this work is deeply rooted in my own journey, including being a parent to a child with disabilities. My career began with providing in-home CAP and respite services while I earned my BA in Psychology from UNCG. I then served as a special education teacher for students with severe and profound disabilities before earning both my MA and and Specialist degrees in School Psychology from Winthrop University. My career has spanned public and charter schools, private practice, and directing an academic support program at a private school.

You may be self-aware and capable, yet find yourself repeating patterns you understand but struggle to change. Anxiety, trauma, relationships, family or cultural dynamics, and life transitions may leave you feeling stuck or disconnected from yourself. Therapy can be a space to get curious about the “why” behind these patterns, make sense of your experiences, and learn to set boundaries, identify emotions, communicate more effectively, and build healthier relationships. I specialize in working with adults navigating cultural and family expectations while finding space for their own needs, identity, and goals.

Life can unravel quietly or all at once. Maybe you’ve been holding everything together for too long, or you’ve hit a point where the stress, sadness, anxiety, or constant overthinking feels heavier than it used to. You might be wondering how you ended up here, why things feel so overwhelming, or why it seems like no one truly understands what you’re going through. You don’t have to navigate this alone. I work with individuals, couples, and families who want to feel more grounded, more hopeful, and more in control of their emotional world.

Everyone tells you how well your child is doing. They get good grades, work hard, and seem responsible, mature, and successful for their age. From the outside, everything looks fine. But at home, you see a different side. The anxiety before tests. The constant overthinking. The fear of disappointing others. The tears behind closed doors. The frustration, shutdowns, irritability, outburst, isolation, or loss of confidence that no one else seems to notice. Maybe your child has learned how to achieve, but not how to carry the weight of always feeling the need to do more - so focused that they lost touch of what they need, want, & feel

There are times in our life when we realize that we can't keep doing it alone and we need to reach out for help. Sometimes people we love hurt us. Intentionally, or unintentionally, we hurt them. We let each other down. Our children who are meant to be our greatest joy sometimes are a source of unimagined worry or pain. At times it feels that our life has not turned out how we believed it should have. This realization can feel lonely, be confusing and cause us tremendous pain. Having a safe person and a healthy, trusting relationship with an experienced therapist can help.

How can I find a therapist in Piper Glen Estates?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
