My goal is to foster a safe, non-judgmental space where we can build a trusting relationship so you can find growth and healing as you explore how your story has shaped you.
Are you tired of getting caught in cycles of people pleasing, struggling to set boundaries, and wondering who you really are deep down? Are you sorting through messages you may have learned in your childhood or spiritual community and trying to figure out what feels true to your identity?

All relationship challenges improve with effective communication.
You've gotten lost in the daily grind and drifted apart. Work, kids, laundry.. you feel like roommates who split chores. You don't feel heard, seen, admired, desired or understood. It seems like you keep fighting over little things, that quickly turn into arguments about unresolved issues that have hung around for years. You've tried everything. Ignoring it, conceding, appeasing, fighting, silence, retreat..

It is normal for any relationship to have ups and downs, but you do not have to stay stuck in a cycle of negativity. Are you at a crossroads in your marriage or partnership? Are you dealing with past or present unhealthy family dynamics? If so, couples or family counseling can help. Problems in relationships can vary, as can the perspective of those problems. As a licensed counselor, I will assist you in your journey of working through your concerns, learning to communicate effectively, actively listening to your loved one's point of view, and navigating out of your current circumstances toward the life that you desire.

I respect the therapeutic relationship and make sure that our time together is grounded in safety, theory and trust.
My practice focuses on supporting individuals who are dealing with transition, life evaluation, chronic illness, loss and change. I have had the privilege of working with individuals who are dealing with caring for both children and aging parents, caring for a spouse or loved one or grieving the loss of an individual or relationship . I have also found that families benefit from dialogue regarding changes in roles within the family system as members get older and more/less dependent. Additionally, some of my clients come to counseling to work through the age old question of "What am I doing with my life?".

I specialize in issues related to trauma, spirituality, anxiety, relationship conflict, compassion fatigue, burnout, culture and identity.
Welcome. I am glad you are here. As a person who was raised by POW survivors and refugees, I know intimately how trauma can be woven into the fabric of one’s history. I know first hand the hardship of coming face to face with the questions of “how do we live on in the wake of loss and/or betrayal?” and more importantly, “how can we begin to laugh again?”. The fact that you have found yourself here on this page tells me that you have already taken that first step beyond survival and towards deeper living.

I've helped clients work through depression, anxiety, grief, adjustment to life changes, and relationship issues.
If you're searching for a therapist you know there has to be a good fit between the two of you in order for that partnership to be successful. I don't believe there is a one size fits all when it comes to life's challenges and no one size fits all when I work with clients. Life has a habit of throwing us a curve ball on occasion and it's nice to work through that with someone who isn't in the middle of your life. Reach out and let's talk. I take a strength-based approach and use various modalities to facilitate insight, reach personal goals, and work through issues.

A successful therapeutic relationship is all about partnership and creating a space for holistic growth and change.
We have all had experiences in life that leave us broken, discontent, confused, unstable, or even hopeless. We have heard the saying “life-happens” and often the expectation is that you can just get over it. Sometimes moving past traumatic experiences can be difficult, the emotional baggage can be heavy. Do you feel “stuck” or unable to move through your healing process? Maybe you need help navigating a stressful situation or difficult relationship . Are your thoughts overwhelming and consuming you with worry and doubt? Does this sound like you?

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
