Do you notice that your teen is not themselves? Do they seem overwhelmed? Are they angry or withdrawn? As a parent of a struggling teen, you find yourself worrying about them and you want to make things better. But everything you have tried doesn’t seem to be working. It can be hard to reach out to a counselor because you want to find someone you trust who is knowledgeable but you also want that counselor to be able to get your teen to open up and talk about what is bothering them.

I also work with women’s issues that include pregnancy, infertility and prenatal and postpartum mood disorders.
I enjoy working with adults that have unresolved issues that often stem from their childhood experiences. Many of us often feel stuck or on repeat, often making the same "mistakes" or choices that leave us feeling empty and unfulfilled. Gaining insight to past experiences and working through past traumas can provide us with emotional freedom and clarity, which can lead us to living a more fulfilling life.

Autism in women and girls is finally being recognized and diagnosed though for many the diagnosis comes after years of being socially isolated and having social difficulties.
You never seem to quite fit in. No matter how hard you try it feels as though those around you have some sort of secret code that they all know and use to. As much as you have tried you just can’t crack the code. There are people in your life but you worry they only tolerate you that they will eventually get burned out and leave. You are a passionate person you love theater, reading, crafting, anime, video games, and fantasy. Yet, no one seems as interested in those things as you are. You can find communities on the internet but you still feel lonely. You might have been told that women aren’t autistic but that isn't true.

For example, a woman with postpartum depression generally needs crisis intervention at first, while an 8 year-old may need a slow, trusting approach before any behavioral intervention.
I have worked with adults, adolescents, children and families for over 25 years with a variety of presenting issues including but not limited to Anxiety, OCD, ADHD, Depression and Behavioral Issues. In the last 20 years, I have also specialized in the treatment of women, and couples suffering from prenatal and postpartum disorders.

In 2024, your healing is NOT optional. It takes courage. You are worth it. I specialize in helping you understand the roots of places where you feel stuck, and push for a life of wholeness and freedom. I understand how change happens—gradually, awkwardly, and mostly beneath the surface. I am passionate about working with those navigating disordered eating, body image, and weight concerns, as well as managing grief, relationships, and depression/anxiety. I am inspired by those around me who continue to show up and do their healing work, willing themselves to take up spaces where they have been scared to do so previously.

I am dedicated to supporting women through life's most challenging transitions.
I know firsthand how daunting it feels to seek help after trauma. Facing deep wounds is incredibly difficult. For years, I hit dead ends despite my best efforts. I felt like I had my life all planned out, but nothing could prepare me for the roadblocks ahead. Not having the answers was frustrating. But it also lit a fire within me to begin my own healing journey. I soon realized I needed to take a new approach to confront my past traumas head-on. Seeking out a therapist was my number one task. I needed to process through what I had experienced. I needed to dig deeper to better understand why I felt alone and why I blamed myself.

I am a licensed psychotherapist with 29 years of experience. I believe our greatest healing emerges out of our deepest trauma, challenges and struggles. My belief is that we have a core that is unshakeable and I am committed to offering my clients a warm, respectful and non-judging space in which to explore and recognize their own resilience and restore balance in their daily lives. Often when we are overwhelmed by life we isolate ourselves from those who can help us most. I support my clients in developing tools to manage the ups and downs of life.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
