One of the greatest joys of being a psychologist is seeing and helping individuals and couples create a better life for themselves. Some people I have seen have overcome or at least reduced their level of fear and anxiety. Some, who had severe depression to the point of experiencing suicidal ideations and wanting to isolate themselves from others, were able to overcome their depression and to live more productive lives. Some couples, who were on the brink of separation and divorce, were able to resolve their differences and recommit themselves to a better life together. People who had lost loved ones were able to work through their grief and to realize that their loved ones will never be forgotten and will forever remain in their hearts. These are just a few examples of how people whom I have seen have been able to transform their lives through counseling. During our session I make every effort to provide a safe, nurturing and empathic environment to make it easier for individuals and couples to share their concerns. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, hypnosis and other methods as necessary to help the person/couples achieve their goals for feeling better about themselves

I specialize in treating adults 18 and older with chronic illness/pain, depression (with or without suicidal thoughts), substance use concerns, and/or disordered eating.
Do you miss the life you once had or are angry that the life that you planned was changed drastically due to chronic illness? Do you get consistently flustered at not being able to do what you could last week due to a flare up of symptoms? Do you get frustrated because the people in your life assume you’re “better” when you’re experiencing a mild symptom day? Do you often find your inner voice saying mean, unhelpful things to you? Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, then you and I may be a good therapeutic match.

I love dogs, specifically Boston Terriers. I love music and was a touring musician for a bit. I love sports and am the type to wake up at 4am on a Saturday to watch a soccer match. Humor is so important. Long walks on the beach are cool, too. I say all this because before I am a therapist, I am a person with interests and hobbies. In my opinion, too much of the traditional therapeutic process can feel sterile and impersonal. This approach might not work for all but hey, honesty is important. You may have told social media about your mental health acting up, now tell a licensed professional.

It can be exhausting to navigate life when isolated, facing one stressor after another, feeling depressed or anxious, or trying to recover from a traumatic experience. For many, these experiences interfere with day-to-day life such as our relationships, work, school, and more. For many, therapy can provide needed support. The most significant part of therapy is your relationship with your therapist, this is why I approach therapy by getting to know you as a whole person and use a collaborative approach to help empower your innate strengths.

While most types of therapy have a lot in common, they also fall into clusters that share core features, such as cognitive therapies or psychodynamic approaches.
