Life can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re juggling school, work, family expectations, or major life transitions. Many of the clients I work with in the Triangle area come to therapy feeling stuck in their thoughts, unsure of their next steps, or disconnected from themselves. In therapy, we focus on understanding what’s contributing to that sense of being off-balance and developing practical, realistic tools you can use outside of session. I take a collaborative approach: you set the pace and direction, and I help you clarify what’s getting in the way and how to move forward in a way that feels sustainable.

Our unique experiences and our responses to them, I believe, are the most important determinants to how our lives will go. I am not a believer in someone choosing the “wrong” path or making the “wrong” choices, these choices or paths are simply “our” choices or paths and the way we respond to the consequences they create have led us to where we are today. I want to work with you to address your struggles and help you gain a greater understanding of yourself, all while supporting you to live a life aligned with your social, emotional, and spiritual goals. You are not alone – I am here to walk this path with you!

Teenagers and even children are more and more dealing with environmental pressure that results in them feeling overwhelmed, stressed and anxious and can often lead to depression among a host of concerns. Parents can be their child's biggest strength through these tough years and is why I am dedicated to strengthening the parent and child relationship to enable children and teens to be successful in dealing with these common issues.

With all of the changes recently occurring in our daily lives, feeling lost and uncertain about life is becoming a very real part of your reality. Looking at yourself today, you realize that you are a shell of what you once used to be. The happiness, joy, and fulfillment of life that you once knew has become a distant memory. So much so that you no longer recognize the person staring back at you in the mirror. As each day passes, the feelings of being "stuck" have taken hold and it seems likely that there is no hope in sight. It's almost like being stuck in a bad dream that you can't wake up from.

Most of us need help, at one time or another in our lives, and asking for help is not always easy. However, it is important to realize our own limitations and allow yourself to feel better. Mental health is a vital part of overall well-being, and its impact on our life should not be underestimated.

Or you're a professional who excels at work but your personal life is suffering as long hours and pressure are taking their toll. Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
