Just like Forrest Gump says “Life is like a box of chocolates…you never know what you are going to get.” Life will be filled with joys, it will be filled with sorrows, and I don’t even know what is happening anymore but I am going along for the ride. With all these experiences we would like to share it with someone whether a close friend, a family member, or our spouse / partner . But…there are some things that we get stuck in life not being able to process, or our supporters might not understand. That we might need to reach for outside help, which is okay. I can be that person you reach out to.

I offer free mental health therapy to anyone who is seeking support. I believe that everyone should have access to therapy regardless of their financial situation or insurance status. When the barrier of a monetary transaction is removed, there can be more focus on the relationship between client and therapist.

There are times in our lives when we feel overwhelmed, unmotivated, and disconnected. We lose sight of who we are and what we want. It is my belief that all humans are capable of growth and contentment. That, through practicing self-awareness and self-acceptance, we are able to re-examine beliefs, behaviors, and patterns of protection that keep us from connection and creating joy. I utilize an integrated and relational approach to work with clients on becoming "unstuck" from anxiety, depression, trauma, body image issues, relationship concerns, challenging life transitions, impacts of oppressive systems, and limiting beliefs.

In addition to helping individuals, as well as couples wanting to improve their relationships, I specialize in assisting those who are facing high conflict relationships or divorce. Both are devastating and difficult to navigate on a "good" day. Gaslighting, accusations, manipulation, long drawn out legal battles, and difficulty co-parenting can take a toll on even the most resilient person. Many of my clients are questioning if they are in an abusive relationship , are considering leaving, are ready to leave but need guidance and support on how to do so in a safer manner, or have left and are trying to rebuild a new life.

Our relationship will begin with me learning and understanding your personal story.
I am a Black female therapist. My mission is to create healing spaces for BIPOC. Healing spaces for BIPOC should be a space where one can be free from the mainstream stereotypes that permeate the spaces we occupy. Therapy as a healing space incorporates a holistic approach to ensure all aspects of a person’s life are considered. As a therapist, I aim to help my clients embark on their wellness journey- cultivating a quality of life that reflects their personal values, cultures, and beliefs. During our time together, I will be your co-pilot-there to support you if you happen to get “lost” along the way .

I have many years of my own experiences to draw from that make me a grounded understanding partner to help get you back on track.
I specialize in stress and grief counseling. When life "happens" it can be overwhelming and confusing, there are times you simply need a sounding board and sometimes you need much more. Stress can come from many different sources and may become complicated and difficult to deal with. Such debilitating stress can be based in everyday life or a sudden occurrence such as loss of a loved one. There is no specific way to grieve and no guideline that was ever taught. Grief can be such a heavy burden to carry that can affect every aspect of your life. It can be stressful, confusing, and debilitating.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
