Sometimes it feels like no matter what we do or how hard we try, we are treading water just to keep our head above the surface. We get stuck in patterns of behaving, thinking, relating, and coping that no longer serve us. We feel hopelessness, shame, fear, and self-doubt, keeping us from the things we need most- connection, vulnerability, and meaning. In this place, it is hard to see a way out and we feel helpless to make a change. We lose sight of who we are, what we value, and what brings us joy and contentment. My goal is to help you get “unstuck” so that you can engage more fully in your life.

Why do we do anything? I believe the reason that we do anything is to feel better. There may be 5 physical senses; however, we pursue life always in the hope of feeling better. We attract our life circumstances based on how we feel. Our active emotions create an emotional vibrational set point. When we learn to tend to our emotional health first, prior to engaging in action, we become the authors of our lives. Learning to find emotional alignment prior to engaging in activity, conversation, and interaction with others, will allow us to attract our wanted life desires. Thus, change your energy and you change your life.

I work with adolescents, adults, and families, and especially enjoy supporting families through challenging dynamics or periods of change.
Seeking greater self-awareness and healing can be one of the most courageous steps you'll ever take. Facing life’s challenges isn’t easy, but you don’t have to do it alone. My role is to walk beside you as you navigate experiences such as trauma, depression, anxiety, family dynamics, life transitions, and the everyday stressors that can feel overwhelming. Together, we’ll create a space that feels safe, supportive, and grounded in compassion — a space where you can reconnect with your values, build coping skills, and strengthen your sense of self-worth and self-compassion.

I have worked with a variety of people including children with physical illness, at-risk adolescents, adults with mental illness, seniors both with and without dementia, refugees and immigrants and as a supervisor for art therapists seeking art therapy registration.
While my approach is eclectic and varies based on the client I am working with, I am largely person-centered, helping each client to find their own path and setting goals appropriate for their journey. I find that the arts help to facilitate moments of insight in a way that is often more powerful than traditional talk therapy.

I work with adults and adolescents to help them address the problems keeping them from reaching their full potential.
Sometimes we experience difficulties that we can't seem to solve on our own. It may be a life transition that creates unexpected challenges, such as graduating, changing jobs, becoming a parent, or losing a loved one. It may be a relationship problem or a difficult situation at work. Or it may be more of an internal struggle, in which we find ourselves feeling anxious, lonely, or stuck. Sometimes we just have a vague sense that something isn't right, that we're not as happy or as fulfilled as we could be.

I help adults and teens work through these situations by understanding what's really creating these patterns and finding better ways to adapt to life's challenges, building insight, courage, and motivation along the way.
My clients appreciate that I can go deep when needed but also keeps things practical. Together we establish what's wrong and what you want, then work backward through the patterns that are getting in the way. I work well with people who don't see themselves as "therapy people", including men who've not done counseling and anxious teenagers.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
