Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, MA, LCMHCA, NCC
Welcome! I specialize in counseling for children (ages 2-12) addressing mental health concerns related to anger, anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress, emotional dysregulation, self-esteem, disruptive behaviors, and interpersonal conflicts with others. I also specialize in counseling for parents and caregivers addressing concerns related to parenting, behavior management, and strained family relationships.
Sometimes we feel stuck. We’ve tried on our own to heal, grow, and learn but we still find ourselves in the same patterns that have led to a continuous cycle of confusion, shame, and hopelessness. You are not alone. If you have found yourself questioning your worth, your relationships, or your identity, I am here to help. Most of us know, logically, that hardship, distress, and unwanted emotions are a part of life. But sometimes we were not given the correct tools to manage these difficult experiences. Together, I believe we can connect back to your authentic self so that you can lead the life you want.
I focus primarily on work with adolescents experiencing anxiety and depression or struggling with self-esteem as well as their families who are experiencing life transitions, parenting difficulties, and relationship concerns.
Are you in a transition to become more of who you know yourself to be? Do you notice areas in your life where you question who you are? What matters to you? How do you want to show up for yourself? Where do you want to go on your next path in life? Sometimes we struggle in life, and for understandable reasons when we consider the life we have already lived and the challenges we have overcome. Though you find yourself in positions of achievement and personal growth, old patterns continue to show up, hold you back, and distract you from living life with confidence and behaving as your true self.

She is currently the clinical director at the CBT Counseling Centers in Asheville, North Carolina, having relocated there from New York in 2014.
Insomnia, OCD, difficult life transitions, and anxiety and mood disorders are Kathleen’s main focus. She enjoys working with adults who need additional support in tackling issues that are getting in the way of the life they would like to lead.

Many of us encounter challenges as we search for deeper self-understanding and endeavor to make meaningful sense of our lives. We may find ourselves struggling with feelings that are frightening or navigating painful patterns that we don't yet understand. I support people in putting words to and becoming compassionately acquainted with these complex inner experiences. The more of ourselves we put into words within a safe and nurturing relationship the more receptive we can become, both to our own depths and to the rich complexity of life.

Since that moment that changed your life forever you’ve been trapped, a stranger to yourself, disconnected, filled with self-loathing. You can quickly recall the devastation, the immense fear, the violation. You experience periods of sobbing uncontrollably, blaming yourself that you should have done more. You get overwhelmed with the anxiety, hypervigilance, and distrust you hold both towards yourself and anyone who tries to get close to you. Filled with constant discomfort, feeling like a ghost in your own body, you feel stuck, hopeless, and lost. In the mirror, you are a stranger to yourself, filled with regret and disgust.
As a psychologist, with over 20 years of experience, I approach the therapy relationship with a blend of modern science, ancient wisdom (Secular, Yogic and Buddhist philosophies), common sense, humor and integrity. Increasing awareness through mindful intention and observation of the mind-body, describes my approach to psychotherapy. The therapeutic relationship is collaborative and aimed at identifying your obstacles to healing. The co-creation of a clear pathway between the heart, mind and emotions is the therapeutic work.Your "best self" will be challenged, nurtured and supported in the process.

I can help you explore your hope for change in a safe and confidential environment. Together we will compassionately bring affirmation, clarity, and empowerment to your life.
Are you struggling through a family or life transition? Are you feeling weighed down by loss or grief? Even in the darkest moments, there is still hope. I have a passion for supporting people in difficult places, especially teenagers and young adults. I have deep empathy for people who are stepping into new seasons and long to equip them with tools to find joy amidst uncertainty. I enjoy working with adoptive and foster children, and I especially like working with their siblings, who are often the forgotten heroes in the foster/adoption world.
You feel disconnected. Old stories flood back in. You're ensnared in the same push-pull or retreating patterns. Unsure how much to let others in. You're exhausted. You want to feel love. Connected to tears and laughter. Connected to yourself, your loved ones, your community. You want to belong. You're ready to invite, work, reclaim and live your story. You want to give thanks to what has gotten you to this point, honor it, and compost what no longer serves you. You're ready for the next step. You are the hero(ine) of this story.

In therapy, I create sacred space for clients to bring compassionate curiosity to life experiences. Therapy is a place to deepen one’s connection and relationship with the self, and to gain embodied insight about one’s personal process, dynamics, and patterning. It is also a place to explore one’s relationships to others to build more fulfilling connections and intimacy in one’s life. I offer various tools to support you in your journey, such as mindful self compassion, guided visualization, self inquiry, embodied parts work, and a somatic (body based) orientation to trauma.
