Entering into counseling takes both courage and vulnerability. I treat adults and children with trauma/anxiety and or substance use disorders. The approach that I use is one of trust and mutual respect, believing that every person has within them everything they need to grow and learn in life. Identifying and drawing forth those skills and strengths as well as an action plan for change is crucial for problem resolution. My approach in counseling is holistic as is my approach to self-healing, working with body, mind, and Spirit. They are truly connected. Working with any one area will impact the others.

We can feel trapped in certain patterns of thought, behavior, or substance use . These patterns can lead to depression, anxiety, relationships issues, and further cycles of addiction. To escape these patterns and cycles, it is necessary to have a space where we feel comfortable and safe expressing our truth and what is really going on in life. Honesty is the first step to healing and recovery. I aim to provide a space where you feel comfortable being your full self; allowing for honest reflection, unburdening and development towards a more integrated and positive life.

Change can be difficult. Therapy provides support as you adapt to life's countless changes and curveballs. As a clinical social worker, I have spent time working alongside teens, young adults, and adults as they work through issues varying from hospitalization to exploring substance use and its effects on daily life, behavioral issues, and family conflict. I draw extensively from Maslow's hierarchy of needs and help clients explore their immediate basic needs and safety while addressing love and belonging, self-esteem, and spiritual aspects of daily life.

Your life has not turned out how you had dreamed, hoped, or planned. You are constantly impacted by anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, substance use , or loss. You find yourself trying to solve this discomfort by repeating behaviors that provide temporary relief, but ultimately lead you further away from the kind of life you want, and the kind of person you want to be. Instead of stuck, exhausted, desperate, and dissatisfied, you'd like to move through your life with confidence, compassion, clarity, trust, creativity, curiosity, and centeredness. You'd like to finally resolve the hurt or pain you have been carrying inside you.

My experience includes treating intersecting and standalone issues related to depression, anxiety, PTSD/Trauma, end of life, substance use , major life transitions, and chronic health conditions.
Are you struggling to find help that's right for you? Are you facing difficult life transitions and unsure of how to proceed? Are you dealing with the burden of shame or guilt alone? Do you want a non-judgmental space to examine your relationship to substances? Are there behaviors you would like to change but unsure of where to start? I provide radically compassionate and accepting care to people with all life experiences and stories. I believe that a collaborative, safe, and strong relational connection is the foundation for providing a therapeutic space for clients to experience empowered growth and change.

Though I work with everyone, and all are welcome, always, I specialize in working with adolescent teens and adult men. Emphasizing mindfulness, my work is particularly effective in dealing with patterns of substance use or other addictive tendencies, social anxiety, ADHD, and important life transitions. Rather than having my own agenda, I appreciate helping clients clarify and compassionately move toward their vision, find meaning through challenge, and gain deeper understanding of their own dilemmas. I also enjoy helping people learn to communicate authentically with their loved ones in ways that help change detrimental patterns.

I view therapy as an ongoing conversation in which the client receives support and feedback that family and friends may not be able to give. I enjoy working with people who are willing to do the work to make peace with questions and challenges that don't always have easy answers. I support individuals who desire assistance with managing a variety of concerns such as anxiety, emotional eating, substance use or depression. Additionally I am EMDR trained. I also offer couples counseling from an attachment perspective for both “traditional” and LGBT+ relationships.

I believe therapy is a journey of self exploration. Mental health experiences, family distress, and substance use can change a persons relationship with themselves. Returning to strength and connecting with the universal birthright of dignity, value, and safety is possible.

I am passionate about helping those who want to make change and are struggling with the motivation to do so. I love supporting humans who have always had it all together and now need support. I believe both counseling and healing are full-person activities surrounding the mind, the body, and the spirit. I believe different things will work for different people. I approach and meet every client where they are and may use motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, or client-centered therapy. I enjoy working with young adults struggling with anxiety, depression, substance use , grief and trauma.

I believe that most people have the answers within themselves to work through their own problems - my role is to guide you. I have experience helping people who are struggling with anxiety and depression, or who are numbing out through substance use . My clients are often working through life transitions and other challenging situations, such as relationship issues, grief, or chronic pain. Perhaps you have not been handling your emotions very well. You may even feel hopeless, or unsure how to articulate what you are feeling. Therapy is a collaborative journey to a more healthy state of mind.

I have experience working with adults that have struggled with depression, anxiety, substance use , trauma, and negative self-worth.
Sometimes we feel stuck. We’ve tried on our own to heal, grow, and learn but we still find ourselves in the same patterns that have led to a continuous cycle of confusion, shame, and hopelessness. You are not alone. If you have found yourself questioning your worth, your relationships, or your identity, I am here to help. Most of us know, logically, that hardship, distress, and unwanted emotions are a part of life. But sometimes we were not given the correct tools to manage these difficult experiences. Together, I believe we can connect back to your authentic self so that you can lead the life you want.

I always say, "It's okay to not be okay, as long as you tell someone you're not okay!" I'd love to help you with your mental health, substance use , interpersonal, and relationship needs.
Do you want to discover not only how to help yourself for the here and now but build a foundation that can sustain you for a future? The goal is to help you learn how to help yourself by providing you tools and coping skills while processing the impact that life and others may have had on you. Do you struggle with feeling empty, unfulfilled, and lost? Maybe you are using substances to mask or cope with the emotional pain. Maybe shame, guilt, or grief is holding you back from feeling like yourself. Maybe life just feels too difficult or not worth it.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
