I understand that trusting a therapist can be a process. I provide a warm and open space in which you can unfurl at your own pace. My ideal client desires a more heart-centered approach to life. I work particularly well with adults in transitory periods of their life, any type of long term recovery, and/or those seeking more meaningful relationships with themselves and others.

If
sleep
is a basic human function, why is it so damn difficult? We hear all the time the dangers associated with not sleeping the magical eight hours each night. For those of us for whom
sleep
does not come easily, those messages do nothing but reinforce fear and anxiety. Hours laying awake wondering if we’ll ever
sleep
lead to more anxiety and sleeplessness. We relive the day - what mistakes did I make because I was too tired to think clearly? We think through the next day’s responsibilities - what can I get away with canceling? Medications only work short-term, if at all. Will the bed ever be more than a torture chamber?

Kim Rogers
MA
My clients are parents whose babies and children aren't sleeping. Most of my clients have tried everything. They've ruled out medical reasons for lack of
sleep
. Most of my clients know they could do "cry-it-out"
sleep
training, but they don't want to leave their child alone. Many are skeptical, for good reason. They feel that their child may be the most persistent child in the world. They feel stuck, exhausted, and they don't know how to achieve
sleep
. I love designing customized
sleep
plans and working closely with families as they make
sleep
changes. I love how fast their children start sleeping. I love supporting families.

I specialize in trauma and its effects, which may include: anxiety, depression, relational problems,
sleep
problems, anger, and sometimes even physical pain.
As we increase our ability to meet life from a state of relaxed, focused awareness, our answers emerge naturally. The brain/mind/body is always working towards health and well-being. Sometimes there are blocks in the way. These blocks create anxiety and depression in various forms. I believe the purpose of therapy is to help remove barriers to allow your own natural healing to proceed. A safe, accepting, and collaborative therapeutic relationship fosters increased emotional balance and well-being, including at the level of your neurochemistry. I use various approaches and work with clients as co-detectives to explore your answers.

If you are looking for a therapist who can help you dive deeper, or who will take the time to truly hear you and understand you before offering guidance, we will be a good fit. As a doctor in clinical and transpersonal psychology, I am well equipped to help you through either mental health or spiritual concerns.

Life is a funny thing. And often terribly complicated. During our journey in this world, we often face challenges that can feel too big or ongoing. Whether it’s with chronic feelings of anxiousness, depression, emptiness, issues about sexual orientation, gender, or ethnicity, relationship conflict,
sleep
disturbances, substance misuse, school or work issues, or any combination of those, many of us struggle silently. But you don't have to. It can help to work with a therapist with a deep understanding of what it’s like with some of those struggles and who is passionate about helping others learn to thrive despite these adversities.

Life is full of change and transition. Sometimes, we choose to change and we feel in control. Other times, change happens without our permission and it feels like someone else is making all the decisions for us. Whether you choose change or not, the process can take a toll on your emotional/physical/spiritual health, your relationships, and your sense of purpose in the world. It takes immense courage to create (or re-create) your life. It requires looking within to determine what’s truly important, rather than just accept what others tell you is right for you. I’m here to help you regain a sense of control, purpose, and peace.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
