My approach is integrated and holistic, informed by specialized training in
postpartum
care, maternal mental health including loss and fertility, and sensual and sexual wellness.
I believe in feelings. YOUR feelings. Usually, people come to me with emotions like overwhelm, isolation and invisibility. They say, “I’m afraid I’m a failure,” and “I don’t think I’m doing this right.” My job is to spark curiosity about your inner landscape. I support your gradual unfolding: learning to metabolize and negotiate feeling states, becoming mindful of the present moment, and locating patterns that you might not even be aware of. I help people understand the nature of attachment, the physiology of
pregnancy
, birth and the
postpartum
period, and how authentic connection nourishes our psyche and promotes long-term health.

Life can be tough. You had expectations of what you thought life would be. What you thought it would be like to perhaps be a mother, to raise a child, and to connect with your family. You imagined it, maybe even dreamed about it. However now you find that living it is not what you expected. Or perhaps not as fulfilling as you had imagined and hoped for. You feel disconnected, and maybe even guilty or frustrated.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a passion for helping individuals understand their unique wiring with compassion and curiosity. The more understanding we have of ourselves, the greater freedom and joy we will have in life. The brain is such a beautiful piece of us and I am continuously amazed at how it protects us when we need it to. Much of the work I do is assisting you in helping your brain and body reduce defenses when we truly are safe. I believe that taking an honest, directive and nurturing approach is the key to successful treatment. The predominate therapeutic modalities I use are EMDR, CBT, IFS and TRE.

I am committed to creating a safe, non-judgmental space for my clients. I see my role as helping people identify self-limiting beliefs, emotional blocks and other barriers that keep them from leading lives consistent with their authentic selves and their values. I combine theoretical and psychological insights with more pragmatic skills training (relaxation, conflict-resolution, communication skills). I have an active, direct counseling style that combines genuine empathic listening with therapeutic challenges.

I offer a specialized focus to individuals and couples who are in the fertility,
pregnancy
, and early parenthood stage.
There is so much excitement around babies. From the sound of soft baby coos to the warm cuddles right before a nap. Ideally, babies are fun, but new parenthood can be overwhelming, scary, and anxiety provoking. That’s something we don’t talk about enough. From brain fog, not feeling like yourself, body betrayals, feeling out of place, shifts in relationships, grief, exhaustion all the way to isolation, there is so much that can come up in the journey to parenthood. You want to feel balanced, and enjoy yourself again. You want your body to do what it’s supposed to. You want to feel heard, seen, and connected.

I am passionate about supporting individuals who identify as women as they navigate the challenges of life. Addiction and recovery, relationship issues/co-dependence, chronic mental and physical dis-ease, and
pregnancy
/
postpartum
and parenting can bring us to places of deep loneliness, suffering and desperation. Past experiences have shaped our path and our behaviors. Brilliant strategies that enabled us to survive through trauma and adversity no longer serve us. It IS possible to shift those patterns. With loving connection and non-judgment I create a safe space for individuals to do the deep work that results in real life change.

I specialize in supporting female-identifying individuals and parents preparing for or experiencing life changes both big and small. You felt like you had things figured out and were cruising along, or you eagerly anticipated welcoming a new baby. Then you realized that you’re feeling drained, on edge, overwhelmed, you're wasting time on mindless distractions, and have lost sight of who you are or wanted to be. Or maybe you noticed your relationships with others started to become strained, angry, or distant. I can support you in figuring out what’s causing those feelings and how to get back to who you once were… only better!

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists
What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.
When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.
How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
