Life can be challenging. For adults those challenges can include
parenting
, relationships, job stress, overwhelming emotions, life transitions, and many more. Challenges for children and teens can include school-related issues like academic stress, bullying, peer pressure, general "drama", and others. Ultimately, we are all searching for safety, satisfaction and fulfillment in our lives. Often, however, we are unsure how to deal with the challenges that prevent us from finding what we're searching for. It can be hard to know where to turn for help and hard to ask for that help.

Do you take care of everyone but yourself? Do your intimate relationships,
parenting
, career goals, and life in general suck away your mojo? When life feels so demanding that you can't keep up, how do you find your way back to center? Maybe you're struggling not to fight with your partner or children. Maybe you're scared of "not letting anyone down." Maybe the thought of conflict makes you want to throw up. Maybe you have no idea who you are or what you want, but you're ready to explore how you got here. It's not too late to salvage your relationships— or your own sense of self and wellbeing.

I have been working with children and families for the past 15 years, and am passionate about empowering parents to respond to their children’s behaviors in a way that honors their development, fosters connection and builds emotional intelligence. With children, the most impactful changes happen in the context of their primary relationships, so I focus my practice on teaching the
parent
to be knowledgeable in what is happening in their child's brain when they become rigid, defiant, and hijacked by big feelings and how they can connect, teach, and regulate. As parents, we have more power than we think, and children shift when we do.

I can help with: depression & anxiety, family & couple communication, relationship strengthening & premarital counseling, affair & break-ups recovery, divorce & relationship recovery, co-
parenting
, boundary setting & learning when and how to say "No", teen issues: peers, anger, rebellion, school problems & sexuality, physical, mental & emotional abuse recovery, GLBT issues & relationships.
I look at your concerns in the context of your childhood experiences, your current family and your life environments. These patterns repeat themselves. People pick up on cues that communicate what you expect out of them and what they expect out of you. These patterns are no accident, you create them! The good news is you can change them! You are like a magnet, and I help you identify what you're attracting and we change your patterns of attraction to healthy ones. It takes practice, but it can be done, and it will affect the rest of your life!

Support: Raising a child is an amazing opportunity for growth, not only for the child but for the
parent
as well.
I am currently accepting teen and adult clients via telehealth. Staying true to ourselves may be one of the hardest but most important tasks we encounter as we mature into adults. Family, social needs, achievements, anxiety, depression, and many other factors often get in the way of our ability to express ourselves in our fullest capacity. During our time in counseling, you will get to know your truest self, and practice expressing yourself authentically with curiosity and mindfulness.

One of the bravest things you can do is to explore your own patterns and notice the ways they do or do not serve you. Maybe you keep hitting the same wall in your relationship to your self and with others. Maybe anxiety is controlling you or you feel disempowered in your daily life. I commit to support you in noticing your strengths and finding compassion for your stumbles. Together we will grow joy and presence in your life, while learning to attend to, and possibly resolve, unhelpful feelings and patterns.

As a
parent
, I know first-hand how busy life can get.
Let’s face it – being a human can be tough. Life transitions happen and can be scary, sometimes shaking us to our core. Helping you work through your past, present, and planning for a brighter future is where I come in. Even if it doesn’t always feel like it, you're in the driver’s seat of your own life. With that realization comes responsibility but also power. It's my life’s joy to empower others to create the life that they've always envisioned for themselves. Trauma has a way of repeating itself across generations, sometimes despite our best efforts. By reaching out, you're about to make the first step in ending negative cycles.

Childhood is a rollercoaster of experiences. Navigating these ups and downs can leave children worried, sad, withdrawn, or struggling with behaviors. As a
parent
or caregiver it can be difficult knowing what to say or how to help. I love partnering with children and their families to create a safe space to process some of the most difficult times of their lives.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
