I work with couples who are having difficulties in the marriage and partnerships and recognize they need help to make positive changes. I facilitate Emotionally Focused Therapy, used worldwide, that helps couples create a trusting and loving relationship. With an emphasis on emotions, EFT helps couples learn how to stop their no-win fights, let their defenses down, and share more from the heart. With mindfulness, couples become more self aware and more accepting and empathic towards their partner. Over time, couples feel more open and loving toward each other and move much easier through any conflicts that arise.

If you are having the same arguments over and over again, you are not alone. I will be with you every step of the way. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples to interrupt repetitive Cycles where one person reaches out in frustration, causing their partner to withdraw and hide out. Couple Therapy doesn't have to be torture, and there doesn't have to be a "bad guy". I have helped couples with a range of issues from Domestic Abuse to infidelity to communication issues. I even use humor sometimes, but we don't waste a moment! I welcome couples who have been in couple therapy before and have almost given up.

In session, I frequently draw upon mindfulness-based interventions, somatic experiencing, emotionally focused therapy, family systems theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, The Gottman Method, embodiment, and attachment theory.
I’m guided by my belief in the eternal worth and inherent wisdom of each person. Each individual is the expert of their own experience, and, within each of us, lies an immense power for self-healing. My therapeutic style can be described as warm, collaborative, and experiential. I view my role in this process as a facilitator, working alongside individuals as they reflect upon their experiences, broaden their awareness, and investigate ongoing behavioral patterns. Together, we may begin to freely explore prevailing paradigms and construct a more personalized path forward.

Prolonged Exposure for trauma) within a radically open and emotionally focused therapeutic relationship.
You've been digging deep, adapting, and getting it done. You've also been struggling deeply for a while and mostly behind the scenes. Perhaps you haven’t before had the time, resources, or good fortune to connect deeply with an effective therapist. Or maybe your best effort work-arounds are understandably becoming less workable over time. Regardless, if you're like most of my clients, you've simply had it with the old way of managing this. There is good reason to hope that solid therapy work can translate into easier breaths, a reimagined relationship with yourself, and more moments of authentic connection. I've seen it many times.

I'm also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and the Emotional Freedom Technique ( EFT ).
Even the most self-aware humans can experience periods of confusion, stuckness, and destabilization, and oftentimes suffering has unconscious roots. I've dedicated my training and education as a helping professional to learn how to unlock messages from the unconscious to promote healing and well-being. I also strive to arm my clients with concrete tools to use independently, long after our work together is completed. I have many years of experience helping people heal, blending a variety of nontraditional and expressive therapeutic approaches with evidence-based interventions to meet the individual needs of the people I serve.

I've spent many years working with individuals to navigate their symptoms to work together to make daily life feel back in balance. I use Imago, EFT , and Family Systems, to help couples get to the root of their problems.
Are you feeling alone, anxious or depressed? Unsatisfied with your career, have chronic pain or illness? Relationship stress, extended family issues? My clients tell me I'm warm, easy to talk to, and down to earth. I use a variety of treatment approaches: psychodynamic and relational, combined with CBT, EFT , and EMDR. EMDR can help almost any problem resolve more quickly because it allows the brain to make changes on a deeper level than just talking. We still talk plenty though, before, during and after EMDR. My clients find telehealth to be helpful and convenient. I see regular clients occasionally at my home office.

org) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (https://iceeft.
My primary focus in therapy – with individuals, couples or families – is to support and facilitate my clients in their journey to a deeper understanding and awareness of themselves. This goal is best achieved, I believe, by encouraging self-acceptance and insight, and by forming with each client a safe and nonjudgmental relationship. It is within this alliance that, together, we can explore, understand, and begin to gently dismantle the obstacles and unproductive patterns of coping that, although once useful in dealing with painful life events or childhood relationships, may now be keeping them from enjoying a more fulfilling life.

I am certified in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, a highly effective and well-researched method for helping couples move from distance and distress to closeness and calm.
I believe that everyone has the capacity for strong, healthy relationships, and though we sometimes stumble and fall or simply "get stuck" in our personal journey or in relationship with our partners, we can pick ourselves up, brush off the dust, and continue on with love and joy. My work with couples is focused on helping them find their way through the rough patches-helping them ease their loneliness by finding strength in each other...together.

Do you live with that constant, seemingly hopeless battle against an inner monster or dark shadows of the past? It’s so hard to get out of bed each morning because it feels like nothing will get better. Those overwhelming, and sometimes scary, thoughts or memories that run through your head leave you feeling sad, worried, or lost. They cause difficulty in your closest relationships because it feels like no one understands what you're going through. Sometimes these experiences may come up and you find tears in your eyes, your heart starts to pound, or your body begins to shake.

I work with couples using EFT and SCT methods of therapy to understand themselve better in the context of relationship.
Are you on the verge of breaking up? Or feeling alone and misunderstood in your partnership? Do you fight about the same thing over and over again? Are you struggling to find an approach to couples therapy that meets both of your needs? Being in a committed partnership brings up a lot of our past patterns and reactions. We often get defensive, struggle to really hear each other and fear our partner may never change. Many couples work on communication and life-management skills and ultimately, it doesn’t stabilize the relationship. But if we can truly see each other while holding onto ourselves, we can re-pattern our relationships.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
