Hello! I’m a licensed social worker with over 17 years of experience in the field. My specialties include working with trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, stress, and compulsive and obsessive behaviors. I use a holistic approach which can incorporate techniques such as mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapy. I often find that my clients benefit from my experience working with modern neuroscience, which helps us better understand what’s going on inside our brains as we work towards changing our patterns of thinking and behavior.

People generally seek counseling because where they are is not where they want to be. Moving from one place to the other can only happen if changes are made. I focus on creating a trusting and safe environment with an emphasis on collaboration to help ensure that the process to change, though possibly difficult and even painful, is ultimately rewarding and lasting. My focus is on treating you as an individual with unique needs and goals and I will work with you to develop strategies for change based on the information you bring to each session.

I help young adult women feel confident, competent, & in control of their lives. My clients are exhausted like you are. Despite being hard working, determined, & creative, they still feel stuck in a loop. They feel like they’re drowning in a storm of stress, high expectations & confusion about the path ahead-- it’s a full time job keeping their head just above the rising water. They vacillate between feeling powerful & powerless, motivated & avoidant, on top of the world & crushed beneath it’s weight. Sometimes they have a formal diagnosis of Anxiety, Depression, or Trauma, and sometimes... well, sometimes life is just hard.

You've tried everything and your child is still scared or angry and think they can't change. I work with children ages 3-13 to feel better and get along. They're not to blame for what's happened in their lives but do need to take responsibility for their actions. I support kids in not feeling broken or thinking they are "bad". I use play, art projects and stories to help them express feelings. I teach them skills to understand and manage their feelings and teach them to share their feelings to get support and feel safe.

I am passionate about supporting individuals who identify as women as they navigate the challenges of life. Addiction and recovery, relationship issues/co-dependence, chronic mental and physical dis-ease, and pregnancy/postpartum and parenting can bring us to places of deep loneliness, suffering and desperation. Past experiences have shaped our path and our behaviors. Brilliant strategies that enabled us to survive through trauma and adversity no longer serve us. It IS possible to shift those patterns. With loving connection and non-judgment I create a safe space for individuals to do the deep work that results in real life change.

Self-judgment and invalidation can weigh us down and prevent us from living out our values and being our full, authentic selves. I have witnessed the powerful effect on people's lives when they begin to unhook from their negative self-talk and open themselves up to self-compassion. Often the roots of depression, emotion dysregulation, anxiety, difficulty navigating relationships, and self-judgment are in a history of trauma, repeated invalidation, or chronic stress. I help people recognize these roots while also staying mindful in the present. I help folx learn coping skills to tolerate distress and move through difficult emotions.

I enjoy working with women, teens, and first responders in the areas of anxiety, stress, self-esteem, depression, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, trauma, and life transitions. It is within the context of our relationship with self and others that we find or lose balance. It can be hard communicating our feelings and needs with others in an effective way. I offer a whole person, mind-body approach to treatment within the context of a safe and trustworthy therapeutic relationship.

A lot of people think therapy is a one-sided conversation, with little opportunity to experience each other as real people. My clients know that I am as real as it gets! I want to help you achieve your goals, learn more about yourself, and understand how your mind and brain work. While progressing along this path, you will enjoy the process of learning about yourself and perceiving yourself in new ways. My experience is that therapy doesn't need to be painful. I know it can be intimidating to call a therapist, but I hope you will call me and see how I can help you.

I am casual and tattooed, and that tends to work for most people... even if it's vastly different from how people picture a typical 'therapist'. I feel very privileged to work with members of the LGBTQ+ community and believe I offer a unique perspective as a trans man (that also happens to be a therapist). I really enjoy providing support to folks while they explore components of their authentic identities. I am comfortable working with folks that identify with being poly and/or kinky (No shaming here!).

Cigna and Evernorth Therapists
Cigna and its healthcare division Evernorth provide behavioral health coverage though managed care plans and Medicare Advantage plans. Outside the U.S., Cigna provides insurance through Cigna Global Health Benefits.

Cigna and Evernorth HMO plans only cover services from in-network providers and require a referral from your primary care physician. EPO plans also utilize in-network providers but generally do not require a PCP referral. PPO plans offer the most flexibility and a larger network of providers, and may include some out of network benefits.

Occasionally Cigna or Evernorth Therapists in Asheville will only accept a limited number of in-network insurance patients in their practice, so it's important to check if your plan is accepted when you book a consultation.

Based in Connecticut, Cigna insures 180 million people in more than 30 countries around the world. Cigna rebraded its health services division as Evernorth in September 2021.

Here’s a link to more information on how insurance works to cover behavioral health benefits.
