I work with clients around trauma, stress management, life transitions, personal growth and development, and
anxiety
and depression, and the challenges present in day to day life.
Do you find yourself feeling disconnected, or overwhelmed at the idea of navigating another heavy day? Maybe you have experienced a trauma, and have healed some and would like to continue that healing journey. Maybe you are seeking how to move through the trauma or less than nurturing experiences you have lived through and you want to be able to deepen your ability to connect with others or yourself again. Maybe you are going through the day to day with skills that no longer effectively help you reach the goals you have for yourself. My belief, is that you have the innate knowledge for healing, but it may not be visible to you yet.

I am experienced in working with
anxiety
, depression, trauma, attachment wounds, relationship challenges, parenting challenges, women’s issues, discrimination, sensory sensitivity, and OCD.
I believe in meeting each individual where they are in their journey with acceptance and curiosity. I offer compassion, authenticity, and care to help you uncover and satisfy your unmet needs. Many of us are wounded, but we are not broken. When we discover and meet our needs, our nervous systems reset and offer up a whole new place from which to live life. Counseling can help you understand and undo patterns of thought and behavior that unconsciously keep you from truly connecting with yourself and others. You can find peace.

When you can't acknowledge your own inherent value, and rigorous, often unrealistic self-criticism becomes your default mode, life can be a struggle, and
anxiety
, depression, addiction, and physical illness can follow.
Have you been longing for a different way to be with others and yourself? Maybe noticing things you want to change, but don't know how? Like muting your voice to get along with others, then feeling resentful when you're not heard? Lonely and yearning for a deeper connection in your relationships, but fearful of being known? Generous and compassionate with others, but often impatient and angry with yourself? Quick to offer support and care to loved ones, but filled with dread and hopelessness over asking for help for yourself?

Life is challenging, sometimes it can feel like we aren’t made for the pace that is asked of us in today’s world. The result can feel like disconnect, overwhelm, or even depression and
anxiety
. Therapy can help. It is clear to me in my work, and in my own life, that once we start paying attention to our pain, we can do something about it. Having a guide in that process can make it simpler and more effective. Everyone is unique and as individuals what we need can take time to uncover and incorporate into our daily lives.

I often work with LGBTQIA+ young adults who are experiencing

Being human can be tough! There is something new to worry about each day and you might find yourself wondering, “What new dystopian nightmare are we experiencing this week?” or “Which of my rights are being threatened today?" All the while, you’re just trying to make it to class and get your assignments done; find time for your relationships and hobbies while working; or just exist in the world as a person. Sometimes listening to your new favorite album on repeat or scrolling aimlessly through TikTok just isn’t doing it for you anymore- even if that For You Page really gets you! If this sounds familiar, then hi!

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
