I have dedicated my professional career to supporting adult women struggling with alcohol use , anxiety, low self-worth, and life transitions.
Have you ever said “ I will never drink again” only to find yourself drinking again? Do you find yourself hiding bottles? Going to different stores each day to buy alcohol? Does your drinking cause shame and guilt? Are you feeling isolated, alone, misunderstood? Are you stuck in the same patterns of behavior? Have you tried to solve the problems in your life on your own and realized you need help from someone else? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you have made the right choice by being here. Together we can work to help equip you with the necessary tools to help you face and overcome your challenges.

Reconnect with yourself and your surroundings. Take full advantage the natural environment. Gain skills to anchor yourself in self-awareness, discovery, and growth. Learn tangible, practical skills for goal development and incorporation, and accountability. It makes total sense that you are experiencing overwhelm and feel stuck. Intentional group discussions and experiences can help you build healthy pro-social skills. Maybe you're coming back from a wilderness program, or you have participated in traditional intensive outpatient programs already. Maybe you are better served to learn healthy life skills in a more dynamic setting.

Okay, so I'm thinking if you're here looking for a therapist, maybe you feel like your life has become a complete shit show. Or maybe you're just so sick and tired of the same old, same old, but you don't know how to stop or change it. Or maybe you feel frozen in time by the trauma you experienced in your life. Maybe you feel so stuck that any sort of hopeful, positive, and rewarding future is completely out of your reach. OR maybe it's something else like the inability to manage your emotions, or stop using, or push past the storm or grief.

There’s so much pressure to be a certain way in the world. Your anger, heartache, and the behaviors you’re embarrassed of are all welcome here. If you’re suffering, you don’t have to do it alone. As someone who has been impacted by a loved one’s addiction, I care deeply for individuals who use substances to cope and the people in relation to them. I also work with individuals encountering relationship difficulties and life transitions.

Not all therapists are alike and choosing one can be a challenge. Therapists practice in all sorts of ways and use all sorts of methods. I offer talk therapy. It’s just like it sounds. You talk and I listen to you. Essentially, our objective is to study your mind. On your own terms and at your own pace, you offer the study material. I am interested to know what makes you who you are. Hopefully you are interested in that too and if so, we are already on the same wavelength.

Our clinician-founded and operated recovery center offers a mindfulness-based, comprehensive, evidence based, and integrative approach to recovery. We give you the individual attention you deserve; you are truly seen and heard on an individual level. When it comes to addiction treatment we strongly believe in the value of quality over quantity. Therefore we have intentionally created our program to be a small, client focused program treating only 16 individuals at a time. We offer Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient, and Outpatient levels of care.

Even the most self-aware humans can experience periods of confusion, stuckness, and destabilization, and oftentimes suffering has unconscious roots. I've dedicated my training and education as a helping professional to learn how to unlock messages from the unconscious to promote healing and well-being. I also strive to arm my clients with concrete tools to use independently, long after our work together is completed. I have many years of experience helping people heal, blending a variety of nontraditional and expressive therapeutic approaches with evidence-based interventions to meet the individual needs of the people I serve.

Sometimes we feel stuck. We’ve tried on our own to heal, grow, and learn but we still find ourselves in the same patterns that have led to a continuous cycle of confusion, shame, and hopelessness. You are not alone. If you have found yourself questioning your worth, your relationships, or your identity, I am here to help. Most of us know, logically, that hardship, distress, and unwanted emotions are a part of life. But sometimes we were not given the correct tools to manage these difficult experiences. Together, I believe we can connect back to your authentic self so that you can lead the life you want.

Life is hard when you can never put your own needs first, Especially when it feels impossible to give yourself enough credit. Maybe you look in the mirror and just can’t speak kindly to yourself. You’re living in a fast paced world and you just need a minute to breathe but you can’t take the risk of slowing down. You are constantly in a state of worry or stress because you just want to get it right! Decisions make you anxious and you worry that doing something just for you is selfish. Maybe something has happened to you and a brighter future seems out of reach.

My approach is rooted in the experience and belief that we have the answers within. I want my clients to not only survive addiction, eating disorders, and anxiety, but to thrive and love their life. My clients are often incredibly intelligent, creative, and driven. I have seen my clients accomplish amazing things when they get clear on their goals and apply their gifts toward a fulfilling life. My goal is to help you get beneath the layers of labels and get down to your core. Much of our work focuses on aligning your decisions and actions with your own truth.

I have been in the other seat and done the important work of healing and I feel so honored and grateful every day to partner with others on their own path to healing. My approach to counseling is gentle, encouraging and nurturing, although I can be direct when it is helpful. My support is unconditional and without judgement.

Humans are pretty cool. We can watch and rewatch our favorite movies and dye our hair whatever color we choose. But we can also sometimes get stuck in our heads, make decisions in the heat of the moment, or even hurt our friends and family emotionally. These things make us us uniquely human, too. I work with a diverse group of adolescents and adults experiencing a myriad of presenting concerns, including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship problems, trauma history, suicidal ideation, identity development, and LGBTQIA. I provide school-based therapeutic services within Asheville High/SILSA and to adults in Asheville.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
