I see my role as a therapist as being a skilled helper who creates a welcoming, nonjudgmental space where we work together to help you, the client, to gain more insight into yourself, develop healthy self-compassion, and make positive changes. I believe that it is not the things that happen to us that create negative emotions, but rather our "unhelpful" thoughts and behaviors in response to them. I use an eclectic approach, especially emphasizing Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) methods.

Using modalities like DBT, CBT, ACT and mindfulness, we will use techniques that help you address difficult situations in the present and the future, while cultivating your personal growth and wellness.
You deserve to feel heard and understood. Life transitions, experiencing trauma, navigating eating concerns, and understanding relationship challenges can be overwhelming and make you feel alone. New phases of life, going through a really painful experience, or managing our relationship with food and our bodies brings up things that may be unexpected or distressing. You may be asking yourself: What makes me feel most like myself? What are other people thinking? It can feel impossible to determine if you're where you "should" be as you also navigate everything that comes with being a teenager, college student, or young adult.

I believe that every person has the ability to grow, heal and change. As a counselor, I provide a space of nonjudgmental acceptance and authenticity which invites clients to show up exactly as they are and to be valued and supported in all aspects of their identity. I aim to partner with and empower my clients, utilizing the strengths and skills they already possess, to work toward their goals for healing and growth. My counseling orientation is grounded in a family systems approach, though I also draw significantly from attachment theory and person-centered counseling.

My passion is serving the LatinX community whenever possible. I also enjoy working with new parents who are expecting their first child or just welcomed their first child into their family. This time in life is very tender but can also create anxiety, stress, relationship tension, and bring up one's own childhood wounds as parents step into this new role. Working with couples in relationship distress, especially within the LatinX community, is an area of passion and purpose for me. In addition, I work with older teens and adults on a variety of struggles including anxiety, depression, life transitions, and grief/loss.

Have you ever felt like you're carrying more than you can handle but aren't sure where to sit it down? Therapy offers a safe space to unpack and explore those feelings, experiences and make sense of what's weighing on you. Together, we can work towards understanding yourself and finding new ways to move forward. In my years of practicing, I've learned that talking to strangers about life issues is never easy, so I try to make the transition as smooth as possible for everyone I come in contact with. I'm energetic, down to earth, and realistic about life in general.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
